I'm an idiot and lost my only keys to the car

So I'm selling my brothers 65 mustang for him and have it in my garage...i had someone come to look at it today and i couldnt find the keys anywhere...they are LOST!!!! ugh. What options do I have here? Can I just buy all the locks/keys from NPD and change them all out? How time consuming is that? How would I get into the trunk, do I have to drill it out?

Yes, you can just replace all 4 keyed locks (ignition, both doors, and trunk).

Removing the ignition switch can be a bit tricky.

You can get into the trunk by removing the back seat. This is fairly easy to do.

The lower rear seat just lifts up and pops out. The back is held in with 2 bolts and then lifts up.

Another option is to call a locksmith and see if he can come make new keys.

Take the lock cylinders out of the LH door and the trunk and take them to a competent locksmith. This will save you from the near certainty of destroying the ignition switch.

Last year I lost the key to my 2003 Aprillia Mille with the bars in the locked position in my driveway. After calling around I found a good locksmith that told me he could have someone come out and make me a key to fit at about $100/hr and couldn't guarantee how long it. He said if I could get the bike to him or bring just the ignition cylinder it would be "substantially cheaper". Eventually I took the cylinder in and got a call the next day that it was finished. The total was less than $25 and I got 3 keys with it.

I sold the bike in July. In September I found the original key I was so mad when I lost the key (since I had an un-cut blank I planned to get made) I just let the thing sit there for 8 months. Now I am sure to have an excess of keys for all of my toys.

Remove a lock cylinder from a door and take it to a lock smith. Have him cut you some keys for it. Assuming your trunk key is different, you can then drive the car to the smith and let him open the trunk and make a key for it.

Only the Driver's side door lock and the trunk lock have the key codes stamped into them for '64-'70. They are actually stamped into the lock itself if you can believe it...Near the top of the lock where the springs and pins go in.

Sometimes the ignition cylinder will be stamped as well, but not always...It's about a 50/50...but obviously without a key, you can't get the ignition cylinder out.

I've been re-keying/re-pinning ford locks for years.. I'm an old pro at Ford locks.. Like I said, As long as you can get in the car, Take out the Driver's side door lock, and the trunk lock and bring them to a competant lock smith...Within 24 hrs, You will have new identical keys.. He will just cut them to code..

Heck, pop the hood attach a clip lead to the run part of the solenoid, use a screw driver to crank till it fires and then drive the whole car to the lock smith and have new keys made....just take proof of ownership since it will look like you stole it

If you call a real locksmith, just give them the code. Your new key will be waiting for you when you get there.

This is what I had to do when my wife lost the only set of original keys I had for my 68. I changed the ignition switch also while I was at it.
