I am very sad to announce that i will me bailing on my 393\408 stroker project....Instead i will focusing either doing a 9\8.8swap and suspension and chase stiffening...I'm gonna attack the situation the other way around..Get the chase and suspension and rear good and do the motor last..mostly due to time constraints and the way the expectations I have for the car...I am really sad

That is the same plan I have for my car. Steering,suspension, brakes then motor. My thought is what good is power if you cant control it.

It wasn't so much that...cause I'm 19... so a built 408 with 4 wheel drum breaks still seemed like a sweet idea, i figured jam the brakes and pray...But I guess this summer I will focus on putting either a 9 or 8.8 w/ posi and rear discs...with high lift suspension...and i'll wait on the motor...richmond tranny and aftermarket driveshaft might also be in the works too..Im really dissapointed that I had to bail on this build...

Sorry to hear about your engine plans. I've been there before - still waiting for a 351W to come my way in due time. And I've been wanting it since I was 19 about 3 1/2 years ago.

As for the brakes, I would say Safety first, don't go with that phrase above. I take too many claims calls a day for auto insurance, and I've had my fair share of classic car claims, due to inadequate stopping power compared to today's modern vehicles. (had one call where the car went off a cliff in CA! That sucks!)

Anyhow, hope everything goes great for you!

I feel your pain. Now imagine having to address the same issues (breaks, suspension,and built rear, along with minor body work), but having no engine in the car currently, so driving it at all is not an option..theres no other way to describe it other than S****y.

It only seems like it sucks now, but it will be better in the long run. A fast engine isnt that great if you cant stop or turn the car. A lackluster engine can be overlooked in a car that stops and turns well.

I have the fast engine in a chassis with worn out stock suspension and drum brakes. Its fun to mash the gas and bang gears up to 100, but its scary trying to go from 100 to 0 or change direction. I only did it this way because I had the engine first.

For whatever you want to do, chassis and suspension are always the most important.. as well as brakes.. I'm not even done with the chassis n my 68.. sucks but it'll be nice to have a car that goes straight and stops..
Do the chassis and throw a N20 kit on it till you build the engine..

The first repairs I did when I bought my 67 was to redo front and rear brakes. These old brakes (even discs) aren't as good as today's brakes.

I rear ended another car in my First Mustang (65 coupe) and ironically, it was an insurance adjuster.

You have the right idea, safety first. What good is speed if you can't stop to enjoy it again?

Yes, that's why the disc upgrade for me now. I was stopping in the 1/4 down at the end of the track where the guys with the chutes stop.
