IM gonna need a new clutch!!!

whell, with my twin turbo buildup in full tilt, i realize that my old slipping kind cobra isnt gonna hold out(or my t-5) anyhow, what have you guys used for a clutch, that fits our cars, that can hold 450hp+? Im gonna see how long my t-5 will last, cause i just re-built it, but then i will g-force it. So, what clutch should i go with? thanks

oh...another question....should i upgrade my axles/carrier now? I will just have my 295 street tires and wont be going to the dragway too much....what do you think?

i say go with a spec clutch of some sort. most people running them like them. if u dont plan on running any slicks or drag radials, then u shouldnt have to make it a huge priority to swap ur carrier and axles for better, although i would consider it somewhere in the near future for added safety.

If you think the street tires are gunna start slipping then get a lower rear gear ratio like 3.55's so there isn't that much power going to them off the line.....

....or do what I'd do..go with something like 4.30's and have some fun

lol thanks guys....actually, i hear that turbos are better with a higher gear ratio, because there load responsive, and a higher gear keeps you in the boost longer? anyhow,,,,i have 3:73's for now, well see how they are. What Spec should i buy? where can you find those?

I persoanlly do not like the spec clutches, they do hold well and their pedal effort isn't bad at all, but they are grabby as all hell. I have posted many times about my clutch that I'm running and how happy I am with it. I wanted a clutch that would hold all I could throw at it, but one that was streetable too, meaning that I could easily slip it out when running on the street or on drag radials. I contacted Walt at Pro Motion and he set me up with one of his "Kustom" clutches. I just found out today that they FINALLY have a website, so here's a link for you. Call up Walt and he'll help you out. Tell him i was telling you about his "orange" blue printed PP and dual friction disc. I couldn't be happier with this clutch!

I found some spec stage3's for 300
I was wondering what you paid for your clutch........because i can deal with grabby if its alot more. Thanks man

You say that now, but I can assure you that a grabby clutch is NO fun on the street, nor at the track unless you are making passes on slicks dumping the clutch everytime. I think it was around $320 but don't quote me on that as I'm not sure.

Talk to Bob Hanlon, D&D, Walt at Pro Motion and see what they all have to say about the design of the spec stage 3 clutches. they are not as great as they appear to be on all the boards. I have personally seen MANY driveline parts break on people's stangs I know that run that grabby thing. You couldn't give me one for free.

Paul, I wonder what the difference is between our disks? I know you said your dad runs the mcleod disk as do I, but yours is a tad different. The pedal effort on the orange modified/blueprinted fms hd pressure plate isn't bad at all. I say its about similar to a stock king cobra.

Also Paul, did you "break" yours in or do you not get into that stuff? Me personally, I been hammering it since day one

Hey Paul, how is the pedal effort on that clutch of yours? I would like to get a new one and I always see you talking about this pro-motion clutch. I have a Ram HD clutch and the pedal is hard as heck to push down. My left leg feels like it went through a workout routine when I'm done driving the car.

when i had my t-5 rebuilt i used a spec clutch and i believe that is the reason it only lasted for about 5000miles, because the "grabby" clutch shocks the drivetrain too hard when you drop it, and its no fun on the street. i have a dual-friction Zoom clutch from Powered By Ford in with my tk600 and love it

My roomate just put the spec III in his 93 cobra w/ the aluminum flywheel, its not too bad to drive, he hates it, i'm ok with it, but we both like the CF dual friction way better, although the spec wasnt as bad as I thought it would be, not that hard to slip either???? I have heard they redesigned their clutches for harshness.

Yeah killer is right my Spec 1 is pretty damn grabby making it hard to slip on the street. If i had to do it all over again i would probably go elsewere just because im a pure street car and its kinda anoying.

My engine builder had nothing good to say about Spec clutches. Said they were so bad he stopped selling them.

If you're making that kind of power I'd go with something like Paul's.

IMO, it's kinda like custom vs. off the shelf cams...you get better results with something designed for your application.
