I'm new to the '05+ forum.. I have a few questions..

I just picked up a Shelby GT Mustang.. mainly because the dealer gave me more money for my '04 than I could have ever gotten on eBay, also because my parents fell in love with the car..

Anyway.. don't flame me about the car.. I read the post below about how they are a little "over-priced."

Now for the questions.
Lo-Jack is being installed Monday. In addition to Lo-Jack, I would really like a GOOD alarm (not necessarily an "alarm," more of a security system.) I am very good with automotive wiring- I re-wired my '65 with a universal Painless harness. I really don't want the guys at Circtuit City or Best Buy touching my car- whether it's a V6 or a GT500, I just don't trust them with removing panels and what not..

I would like to install everything myself..

So, what is a good security system for the '05+Mustangs? I would like the 2-way set-up with an LCD remote.. Any suggestions?

I do plan on driving this car.. I don't care what all of the Shelby worshipers have to say..I am making payments on it and I did trade my daily driver for it.. It will be driven.. The freeways around here usually have a lot of gravel trucks.. By the looks of my '04 after 15,000 miles, the front bumper really took a beating.. I'm thinking the 3M clear bra film would be best..

Any of you guys have the 3M film on your cars? Where is the best place to buy it? Any places that sell pre-cut kits? I have seen some on eBay, although I don't know if some of the sellers are better than others.

For the '04, I had a NOAH cover from Summit- it was about $149.. For the '07, I want a cover that I can use while the car is parked in a parking lot, in the sun..
Any of you guys cover your Mustangs during the day, while you're at work, etc??
Any suggestions for this?


I think that covers all of my questions..
I must say, the '07 has much more quality compared to the '04. I really enjoyed the '04 but the difference is night and day..

No comment on the alarm as I do not like them. I believe if someone wants the car, they will find a way to take it. She will be Gone in 60 Seconds...............

3M's invisible bra is a necessary addition to that car. If you are comfortable with self-installation (and would think so considering what you have done to the 65) I recommend Sticker City. I have used them for all my Stangs, customer service is exceptional, products are well priced, certified distributor/dealer for many high quality products (NO EBAY KNOCK-Offs cooked in the garage) and they fill and ship orders well ahead of expectations.

I prefer their self-cut sheet rolls. Matter-a-fact, I just finished tinting the fogs, DTRL and markers on the TA today.

Your 65 is beautiful. It is a pleasure to see a young Mustang enthusiast who has had a vintage. You develop a respect for the vehicles and the capacity to maintain and modify them with knowledge and skill.

I thank your parents for raising a well-rounded contributor to the sport and society!

everyone that talks bad about the shelby GT are complaining about the price. if you thought the price was reasonable, thats fine with me. they look great, thats for sure! i have a shelby GT as the picture on my desktop.

A friend of mine had an elderly aunt who passed away. When they went thru her things, there were linens from years ago still wrapped in their original packaging. Anyway, you're right. Use and enjoy your things. Otherwise, someone on down the line will have this great mint condition collectible mustang to use.

I drive to work in an industrial area. If there are gravel trucks, I'll either pass them or slow down and let someone cut me off.

NEVER and I mean never, take to heart negative comments from individuals in the e-world. You are welcome in this forum and I would like to see the relationships with the S197 owners develop. You will find the members your personality blends with. Hold your place and command respect. You deserve it.

Keep in mind comments made within a "narrow site horizon" are usually based on a person’s subjective perception (therefore their reality) and should be immediately negated. Sometimes the best comeback is NONE AT ALL. Lack of response leaves the instigator holding 100% of the bag; frustrating for them, affective for you.

I'd love to have a Shelby too. It is the price that most dealers are wanting that has me upset.
I agree. Drive it. That's what it was built for. I just wouldn't go crazy with modifications that at some point could not be undone.
I would keep the car as close to original as possible.
I'm jealous.

Very nice looking car! It is nice to see somebody make a purchase and feel proud about it despite all the dealer price markups. I also commend you on driving a car that you make payments on no matter what the price!!!!! I could never own a car that I was afraid to drive due to getting a scratch on it or the underside getting dirty in the rain!!!!! I have a 43 MPG Jetta diesel sitting at home that WAS to stay my DD... Well the Stang is SO much fun to drive, I have not even started the Jetta since last November.

That looks like the cover I had on my '04- Manufactured by Wolf with the NOAH fabric, right?

I used the cover inside the garage.. How do you like the cover since you use it outside? Any abrasion, etc, because of wind?


The dealer markup was only $2000, but that was offset by the equity from my '04..


So far the only thing I have to get used to is the speedometer.. The numbers are close together.. Overall, the car is awesome!!

Yes it is the NOAH fabric. The cover works flawlessly! I haven't noticed any damage as a result of the cover. I do get chips from driving up and down the interstate on a near daily basis though. At one point it sat covered for 16 days in a row last fall. Rained several times. When I uncovered it I was amazed at how clean it was. The only dirty spots were where the cover does not cover the tires/wheels completely. I've read where that can be remedied by placing covers over the tires/wheels. There was also no moisture buildup under the cover as well.

I had mine dealer installed by the same people that did the window tint. What I got was basically the works except headlight flim. So it covers the front edge of the car pretty much completely and goes down the rockers and covers the splash area on the front and rear fender area. Looks good and quite often I have to point it out. It's already saved my hood from one good rock chip and it's a night and day difference for cleaning bug splatter off.

+1 on the window tinters....when I had my windows done, (along with my remote start!) they told me that they install the clear bras too. I elected not to do it, because I don't want a line where the bra stops. But they do install them there.

There is a company that can apply a teflon like clear coat to the front bumper,hood, side mirrors and rear flanks of your car that swears it resists chips and dings. It is not the Ford option in which they put another coating of something on the interior and exterior. I saw them at a local car show here, but they are a nation wide company. Its not 3M, and Im sorry I dont know the exact name of the company, but Im stating there is something out there for your car's paint to protect it, expecially a black one! I will try to look it up and pass it on to you if seems like what you are looking for.

I have bought 3M clearbra kits from www.xpel.com a few times, they make great stuff. I would recommend just having an installer do it for you though. There is an installer finder on that website. The kits are expensive and if you screw up, its a few hundred dollar mistake, whereas the installer can just cut another piece if he screws up and continue. The last full clearbra I had installed was on my '05 350Z 35th and that was about $600 out the door...

Hey bud, I had the 3M clear bra on my 06 Dodge Charger and really did not care for it. To be honest with you, after time it looks just as bad as your bumper without the clear bra. The obvious advantage is it does keep your paint underneath in perfect shape. So the question is, what is cheaper: Replacing the Clear Bra once it looks like *****, or just respraying your front bumper.

If you plan on it being a daily driver and your roads suck like mine do in NC regarding Dump Trucks and the such, then you should probably get it. If I were you though, I would worry how the bra will interact with your vinyl stipes.

My thoughts exactly.. Since the stripes are vinyl, the 3M film might look weird where the paint and stripes meet--I think there will be bubbles regardless of how well the film is installed...

I got my first chip yesterday...

On the plus side, the bumper is black underneath the paint..

I was also thinking about the cost of repainting the bumper in 5 years versus the cost of the film.. It's about $250 plus installation for the film--painting the bumper is about $300-$400, depending on who you know...
