Berlin Raceway in Marne MI was advertising an event called "Spectacular Drags", which consisted of drag racing two cars at a time around half of the 7/16 mile circle track. I must admit I was a little nervous, but it sound really fun and the winner could win 100 dollars and a trophy.
I had scoped the competition and the only car I had to worry about was a 2005 corvette. My first race was against a Mercury Sable. Easy win right??? So I get up to the line and start heating up the tires, since we would be flying around a curve and I had tons of rocks and dirt in my nittos. So when I'm sitting there at 5000 rpm with smoke bellowing out, I see the flag guy drop the flag. I was like "What the hell?" Before I even realized that he had actually been enough of a **** to drop the flag during my burnout, the sable was gone. So I let off the gas and tried to go and my tires would not hook up at all. I ended up smoking them for like 40 yards. He got a HUGE jump on me and by the time I caught up to him, we were flying around the curve and the ass end of my car was loosing traction at 70 mph. It obviously wasn't worth trying to pass him on the curve and wreck my car, so I lost to a sable in front of 2000 people. I was so pissed. My buddies and girlfriend gave the officials such a hard time it was hilarious. Then the funniest thing ever happened, the driver of the sable said "It's not my fault he was doing a burnout, my sable just pulls!"
So the 05 vette ending up winning and the people in the stands were too stupid to realize what had happened.
