Hows it going, let me introduce myself.

My name's Jared, born and raised in North Georgia, currently living in Houston TX while attending the tech school "UTI". Im nearly 22 now and looking at 10 months left of auto tech classes. My last project was an old Datsun Z car that I worked on and drove for about two years, swapping in a turbo motor from a late model Z. I never got to finish the bastard and was forced to sell it and get another ride. Ended up buying a Honda Prelude... BIG MISTAKE. I hate Hondas a good bit, never owned a FWD 4cyl in my entire life. So here I am.

I've wanted a Mustang GT since I was 16, the 99-04 models were around at the time and I just never could afford one. I'm a fan of all the mustangs past and present... my old man had a 66 coupe that he had suped up when he was my age and I guess you could say I got the whole speed addiction from him.

So I'm looking into 96-04 Mustang GTs and plan on selling the 4 banger and putting some savings with what I get for it and buying one of these S.O.B.'s. Stangnet is a great site, I've been frequenting it for a long time and look forward to posting here more often as I purchase a stang and start driving a real car for once.

That's it, sorry for making you guys read my friggin life story

-Jared

Well, the 96-98s are pretty damn slow but if you like the body style, then maybe it's for you

However, I wish I had a 99-04 260 horsepower sure feels better than 215/225.

Welcome, good luck with your hunt. Stick to the 99-04....while the looks may or may not be better, the power sure is!

Depending on your budget, I've seen a bunch of nice 99's and 00's around here iwth 50-75k miles for around 10-11k....seem like a good price.

It really all depends on how much I can put together and how much I get for my prelude. I SHOULD be able to pull at least 4 for the honda, the preludes seem to hold their value better than other hondas.

I would prefer the 99+ if at all possible.

Shoot, I've seen preludes still going for a pretty penny, never could understand it. I'd expect to cough up at least 10k for a decent lookin' 99+. Cheapest stang I've seen for sale around here was a 96 with 167k miles, still going for 4500 bucks.

as far as 96-98 4.6 stangs are concerned, From what ive been looking into and reading about, you can swap later model heads in and get some punch back. I know steeda offers them.

But how much exsactly are you getting out of it?

Do a search for headswap, camswap, intakeswap..ect.ect.
The PI cams and intake will help, or the whole PI headswap.

Its not hard to get a 96-98 to hang/walk a 99+.

pi heads on a '96-98 will get you a little more power than a '99-o4 due to higher compression

i'd look for a 96-98 in good condition for a good deal less than a 99+, then put around 2k into the pi swap, exhaust and gears
or
you could get a 99-00 and keep it stock-ish. 260hp ain't all that bad

:OT:
are you planning on taking any msat's? if not i'd highly recommend looking into them

Being from Houston, I suggest that you check some of the local mustang forum classifieds.

Three major ones are:
www.fordpower.net
www.westsidemustangs.com
www.htownracing.com

I for sure saw some 99-04 GTs for sale

Thanks for the input guys. the 96-98 model stangs are deff. in my price range and have the room for improvement so I can spend a little money and not spend as much as I would on a late model GT. I'll be keeping my eyes peeld in the mean time for a good GT.

And yes super, Im currently signed up for Ford Fact. Houston just got the new Nissan program going and I am actually thinking about trying to work for infinity, it all depends. Im taking one or the other for sure however.

thanks guys

...Picked up this bad boy for under 8k...

Just gotta be patient, and know where to look. I bought it off a guy that was origionally asking 10.5k for it, and it didnt sell. He really needed to get rid of it so we settled on that price, and here I am.

Good luck in finding one man.

Have you considered a 96-98 Cobra, the 4V heads really make a difference and it's a better platform to modify from.

Well I did say a decent looking stang....white with those stripes...ummm....J/K!

I'm sure the deals are out there, I was just stating what seems to be the average price of those cars for sale. I'd jump all over a deal like you got though. I keep my eyes peeled too and will have 3 car payments if it means I can get back in a stang for that price.

Hey now, those stripes came straight from the factory...

hahaha... You can make fun of the vent-a-shades all you want though, that wasnt my doing.

I jumped on it cause I saw what most other 99+ GT's were selling for and figured itd be my only chance untill prices came down again to nab that body style. Its got its little issues though, but dont they all...

FACT is a good program. wasn't aware of a nissan program and toyota was still in the works by the time i graduated

and try to stay far, far away from any of the european manufacturers. all their vehicle designs and systems defy all human logic and practicality
