I'm Sort Of Disgusted With Myself

Last week I became so obsessed with the idea of having a 2011+ Mustang that I put mine on craigslist. I put it up for almost $8000 because I knew no one would give that much for it but was willing to entertain offers. The thought of a better refined vehicle that has fresh paint, fresh interior, etc etc had me hooked compared to my 125k mile car that needs a new paint job and that I have so many $$$$s worth of plans for.

Well I took it off Craigslist today. I got this car for $5000, have probably put in over $3k so far into it and love it to death. Especially since I acquired a daily driver, now I can baby this. I wouldn't be scared of driving a 1965-1970 mustang with 300k miles, why should I be worried about this car with 125k...especially when my plans involve a complete engine build sometime in the far future.

Although it isn't as well refined as a new 'stang, I bet I could make it handle a lot better with far less money. It might be a harsher ride, but hell if I started modding a new mustang it would probably start having a harsher ride as well.

There are a ton of reasons why I should keep my current car and only about 1 for getting a new car...which is to simply have a new car; that has a payment, no blood and sweat in it from myself, and no personality. I feel like I need to keep my '99 forever and continue forth with my original modification plans. However, my brain likes to change its mind just about every other week in regards to this car. I hope I stick with my current plan though as this car has so much more meaning....

Would 125k on the odometer scare y'all off from your baby?

tl;dr - I got as close as I could to abandoning the '99 for a new model. I really hope I don't change my mind again because I love my car too much.

I currently have mine listed on Craigslist.. I've gotten a few bites from some people so far but nothing from local forums. Im at the point with mine where its time to go big or go home and for me I think its time to get a different toy. I am going to get a brand new DD later this weekend so my car will not be a daily anymore but I want something different. I have my sights on a Cobra at the moment. I'll see how this goes and take a lower price than where I am at now but by no means will I give it away. I've put way too much into it to see it go to someone who won't appreciate it. And no the milage is not scaring me off, its just I want something different from what it is.

Dang. Yeah I understand. I've just recently been able to actually start modding the car. But as soon as I buy one more thing for this car, that's it; I'm keeping it forever. So I'm in the go big or go home zone as well. I just feel like the look of the car is unparalleled and the potential is huge. So if I do go big, I won't fear doing everything the exact way I want it from there on out. But yeah, the offers for a car with my mileage just aren't really worth it. So...cobra side skirts, heat extractor cervinis hood and brand new paint job...here I come.

There's some good deals on Vortech's in DFW and Ft. Hood area right now.. That would be how I would be going but like I said, I got the itch for a Cobra. Heck if the person who buys mine doesn't want the cobra parts I'll have some of those side skirts you want plus the decklid lol.

I battled with the same thing. I started checking out the 03 04 Cobras and the Shelbys and was going to sell my car. Then I realized something.... I have NO CAR PAYMENTS (well, except my wifes Escape)... I will mod the hell out of my current Mustang and when I can afford it, I will invest in a Shelby or a Corvette and still have my modded up Mustang. I have a Dodge Ram as a DD so my stang sits now unless it's the weekend anyways. I say keep it and make it awesome.

I can't speak about the OP, but for me the payment will be to get a DD and the toy car will be paid off whether I keep my car or get what I want. I have needed a daily driver and the other opportunity has presented itself for a Cobra vs my GT so that's why I am going that route. Rejekt your insurance company is gonna love you with 3 cars on the docket just for you.

I drove a focus and fiesta today and I was not impressed at all.. Yes they were basic cars but I felt like if I put it in D I would fall asleep in it.. I need an auto for my dd since IH35 traffic sucks no matter what time of day it is. I NEVER thought I would say this.. but I'm leaning towards a.......

I have my 2002 Mustang GT (toy), a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 (hemi, DD :)) , a 2004 GSXR1000 (toy) and my wifes 2009 Ford Escape and just sold my 1994 Mustang GT (project)... my insurance with full coverage on everything is only like $170 a month... Geico treats me pretty good. I switched from Progressive...

When I sold my 1994 I was going to get another Mustang, a fox body but needed a DD so I bought my 03 Dodge truck. Man, I love having a truck as a DD. It rides like a dream, I don't have to worry about clearance issues, I can haul stuff and it's a quad cab so people can fit in it easily...

My buddy bought a Kia SUV. Pretty nice.

Truck would be my route too but right now gas milage trumps needing to haul crap around.

No. My car is a '98 with only 66K miles on it. Took a picture when she turned over to 60k.

But up there in the 100K is where you get to spend more quality time with her. Lol. But ya, take care of her right, and she'll never die.

Yeah, gas sucks... I'm getting like 16mpg in the city and maybe 20 highway. That's with the 5.7L Hemi. Also, with the Hemi they recommend using 89 so that adds a bit to it. I actually enjoy driving my truck alot more than I do my Mustang lol ...

My wife gets like 26mpg in the city with her Escape..

I understand what you are saying, I posted my Mustang on CL to see what I would get offer wise. because I wanted to get a Camaro or a GTO.:hide:
On CL everyone wanted to low ball me and I really love my Mustang so I took it off after 2 days, I couldnt handle it anymore. I love my car though sure its not fast as most cars, but I just love how I look forward to driving it whenever I need to get somewhere. The mileage does bother me a bit, I'm about to hit 106,000 miles but the car drives good and does not indicate signs of a worn out motor, hell compared to cars with similar mileage mine looks damn good for its age. Due to the mileage I even thought about giving up on saving up to do a supercharger or cams with bolt ons. Bc I figured by the time I got the $ the car will have about 150k on it and that wouldn't be a wise idea. But the 4.6 I have been reading is a strong little motor so I will see how much I get outta mine... And yes not having a car payment is great, after 3 years of paying mine off *bought it used while in school* it feels great to look at it and know its mine.

In general I think all of us would like to own something different but there are forces that help get us back into reality or just realize that we have it pretty good imo.

^True that.

I would love to have a truck as a DD, but driving 100 miles every day...a 95 camry that gets 32 mpg is a much better option, especially since I paid $2800 for it and it only had 75k miles (6 months ago). Maybe when I'm ready for a new DD I'll look into getting a Focus ST :D. Those look like they're gonna be some bad little cars and the MSRPs don't look so bad either.

My car gets the best MPG of pretty much all of our cars. I haven't been able to measure it yet since I just replaced the fuel fillerneck grommet. (First full tank). Last I saw, it got around 22 MPG.

My brother's 4 cylinder is better, and our Camaro is better...the Camaro doesn't burn anything..she don't run lol.

Bought my 98 with 125k miles a blown engine and a wrecked rear end for $2100 into it for about $4000 now, I cant let it go after all the wrench time.

Ive toyed with the idea a lot too. Not going to do it though. Been looking at other cars like M3s and AMGs. No way I'll actually buy anything. I just REALLY like cars and cant help but shop/browse for them sometimes even when it makes zero sense to buy one.

Am I normal?
