Importance/ benefits of subframe connectors?

I just ordered a set of MM full length subframe connectors (not powdercoated) and I was curious, did I just waste my money? My mustang cracks and pops quite often, and from what I understand a stiffer chassis is ALWAYS better, and the unibody chassis is not very sturdy (from my understanding). Do I have the right idea? I am not touching the motor (refinancing when i buy the mustang off of lease, and rebuilding motor w/ supercharger) and Im an all go, no show type of guy, so was this a good piece? Also, I am doing the install myself (welding of course!) and wonder if anyone has any opinions/ advice on the install? Thanks guys!!

Make sure you completely clean all the surfaces you'll be welding on. And NO< you did not weaste your money, these are a worthwhile expense. The connectors will tie the front of the car to the rear of the car and keep the body from twisting.

thanks for the input adrock! How clean are you talking?? And will I have to grind off any sounddeadener? I will have an experienced welder on hand to supervise, but I am trying to learn by doing all of my installs myself (have to learn sometime.)

After driving a coupe all winter, and switching to the stang (vert) now I can tell that I need something. It just doesnt feel right. And I notice that when I floor it at a light, the whole body just feels like its gonna turn into a pretzel. So, no I dont think you wasted your cash, in fact I think I might buy some this week.

one of the better mods you can get. when I had my 00 gt I had regular subs installed and it was a totally different car, felt great and you could launch hard with it. cant wait to get mine installed on the cobra, been setting in the closet to long.

Yep..I noticed the diffrence in reverse out of the parking space at the exaust shop that installed them!!! No way did you waist any money I have a bone stock 5 month old Gt with Steeda full lenths...............jj

I just got mine about 3 weeks ago (griggs), and am mad that I didn't do it when I first got the car! They made a huge difference....definitely reduced flex in the unibody, quieting the creaks down a lot.

If you have a convertible, the very first thing you should do is to put Subframe connectors on. Especially if you are going to up the hp. Coupes benefit from this mod as well. The difference is night and day...

there is a diff , just to see one time i had them removed. Pulling out the driveway of the shop my chassis was twisting and It drove like crap until I had new ones put on.

One of the best mods for your Stang..Good move getting the MMFL. Look up Rocketman..one of his posts are an excellent illustration of a MMFL install. Good pics.

Make sure the car is on a rack where the entire weight of the car is resting on the wheels when you weld them in. Don't use a rack where the wheels hang down.

How are the SFC's for drag racing? I know with drag racing you want the weight to go to the rear so would the SFC's hurt or help for drag racing setups?

I would assume they would help transfer the power better....they would help alleviate torque twist in the unibody...ie more power transferred to the rear tires rather than lost on twisting the body. That's assuming you can effectively put down all the power though.

I got UPRs I havent installed them yet, kinda scared cause every one says not to use thiers, but no one ever says why. I was told MMs are some of the best.

well, they are in the mail, be here in a few days. I got the bare ones, can anyone suggest something I can coat them with to keep them from rusting??
