I had a quick question, that I thought about putting in sound and shine, but I dont think this job will involve wax.

Anyways, I sanded the straps to clean metal on my gas tank, and cleaned the tank and then painted the whole thing flat black.

But the thing sticks out, so I was wondering if I could put any paint on the tank that would stick? or should I just stick with black? I thought it would be cool to put some ultra glossy gray paint on it to make it match the car?

Thanks for your help!

When I changed out the fuel pump in my stang I found that the lower portion of the tank is covered by a Poyethylene(?)plastic shell. If yours is the same you could try that new spraypaint that I think is called "Fusion". I think Krylon makes it. It is supposed to molecularly bound directly to plastic without sanding or priming. Just mask off your straps, I don't know what it will do on metal.
Hope that helps!
