2 weeks from today is the 1 year anniversary of the accident.

This is where I am at the moment. The shop thinks to finish sometime next week. The lighting conditions were bad and I did not use a flash so the quality of the pics is less than ideal.

I went for Grabber Blue. It turned out better than I expected.

This is still the first coat. They still have to wet sand and clear coat before adding the second coat.

is this the car that had the quarter opened up, and the rear suspension torn out? if so youve done really well in a year! it looks awesome. this from someone who has earned somewhat of a bad rep on here for telling you straight up you are getting a hack job when it comes to bodywork...

Not only the rear quarter and suspension, but when the carpet came out, we found the floor pan was completely rusted through and the toe boards were badly rusted as well.

I had a new one piece floor pan shipped over from the US and installed along with new toe boards and torque boxes.

I don't recall your ever saying I was getting a hack job. I think this guy is doing a great job.

Hey man, I'm glad to see the car is comming back together. Its been a long road for you. I can't wait to hear you are driving it again. It looks great so far. Keep up the good work !

God, how much did that thing end up costing you then after duty and what not ?

This costs for shipping this order were huge because of the dimensions involved.

For example.

April, I shipped over by Bax Global the following

  • passenger's side door shell
  • rear quarter panel
  • pair of full length headers
  • 4 fender moldings
  • pair of torque boxes
  • two rocker panel moldings
  • and a bunch of other stuff

for $583 in shipping and EUR 400 in duty and VAT

This last order consisted of

  • a second door shell
  • full length floor pan
  • front fender
  • other odds and ends

the cost of the order was $1811 and I spent $1062 in shipping because of the dimensions (this order was more by vol than weight compared to the April order) and another EUR 400 in duty.

dude, you should have made on big order and gotten you own cargo container shipped or just have shipped the car back for repairs!

True dat! Where is Mr. Sherman and the "Way Back Machine" when you need it?

When the first order was placed, it was thought that the driver's side door was ok and the rust under the carpet manageable. You see, I was only going to do "this much" and get the car running again. But in for a penny, in for a pound, and once I had a lot of money sank, it was stop and crust the car and sell the rest off for scrap or damn the torpedos and turn this into a show stopper. We did not know the fender was so bad until he stripped the paint off it. There was more bondo than metal. The same with the door. Bondo and rust. Once the extent of the rust became clear, I knew I had to do everything at once and spend a lot of money up front or do it piece by piece and spend even more money at the end of the day. Once I started down the path of repair and restoration, there was no going back.

It's only money.

Looking very nice Jerry, seems like the shop is doing a good quality job. I remember seeing the pics after your accident and thinking that car took a pretty good hit. You had some nice quality performance parts invested in that car, so I'm sure this thing will be great once all back together. I think we can all relate to not being able to draw the line... Once you get started with these types of repairs, it's either all in or regrets later. Keep the porgress reports coming.

awesome Jerr, can't wait to see her back on all fours again. i foe one am glad you decided to save the car, i hate seeing really nice cars scrapped for what in the end turns out to be not that big a deal when you look back on it, however with all the rust involved too it could very easily have gone the other way, still i'm glad to see the car coming back together and looking so fine :nice:
