So we just had a company meeting.. everyone in the company is getting a 10% decrease in pay, and 4 people are getting layed off. Im in a small (25 people) graphic arts company where im the art director.. im 24... the home market has crashed... there is a senior art director, me, and a regular graphic artist under me... so me and the artist will prolly get layed off. there is another division of my company in colorado with like 8 people, there is an artist out there too. so you only need one artist here and one in colorado and that should be good.. im really like upset and down right now i dont know what to do.

I feel your pain man... I got out of the military, got a good job at a phone company (taking inbound service calls) and they ended up laying off a ton of people all at once. i had to get a crappy job at advance auto parts where i had to fight to get 40 hours a week. got a job at a delaership wrenching on cars again, left there for a little better job back on base in the hospital, then finally got a decent break back at the dealership being a parts manager. oh, did i mention i had to sell all of the new parts i had just bought for the car becasue right after i got out of the military my wife (at the time) and i decided to get divorced.. she let every bill go 3 months unpaid, my house was about to get repossesed, and by the time it was all said and done, i was barely caught up on my bills, got to keep the house and a shell of a mustang. thats why here i am 4 years later just about to finish that same damn car.

michigan is known for motor city Home of the big3 and with all these layoff's and buy outs goin around.. its crazy in michigan..with out the big 3 employee's, there is no one buying house, with out buyers there are no builders, and with no builders there is no houses that need electricity, i was an electricain for 2 years, thought i had it made, starting this early im 22.. by the time i was 30 i would of had my own company.. but i got laid off about a month ago.. there is no one hiring in michigan.. unless i want to feed whoopers through the broiler... NOWAY~! I Can relate to you loosing your job it sux cuz now you gotta start all over~!

As hard as it seems sometimes it all happens for the better. I used to work for a bank, and three weeks before Christmas we got called into a meeting. It turns out the two guys in offices next to me were getting axed two weeks before Christmas. The boss felt two weeks for the reason that by the time Christmas came around they wouldn't be angry and enjoy the day. ****ing coldhearted! Anyway our company merged my responsibilities were reduced to mundane duties. Got out before things got worse. Turns out the other company I went to work had a worse work environment. This went on for two years. So one day I went to a retirement party for a friend of my wife's family. I met a gentlemen who was an arson investigator for the fire dept. He had known my wife since she was a little girl. Long story short he encourages me to apply with the FD, and it was the best piece of advice I ever got. It turned out to be my dream job without knowing. Moral of the story: God doesn't take away anything from you without giving you something better!!! Keep your head up and keep the faith!!

1990coupe - take a deep breath and relax. The first thing I would do is make sure your resume is up to date. You may also want to start putting word out there that you are looking for another job. Even if you miss this layoff it sounds like you will likely be in a future layoff. Take this as an oppurtunity to change positions or agencies. Like you said, you have little financial commitment so you are definately in a better place than most. In other words, you can take more risks than the ordinary person with family and an a$$ load of debt. Realize that and take advantage of it! The old saying is usually true, when one door closes another door opens. This is your chance for a positive and likely better position. Good luck
