Inexpensive electric fan... Taurus, SN95, Proform or ??

I need to replace my cracked stock cooling fan, and am on somewhat of a tight budget, like sub $75 if possible. I've been looking at the SN95, Taurus and Proform fans, all of which are around the same price and seem to be reccomended. I'm sure any of them would cool my stock engine just fine with my Griffin radiator.

I'm mostly wondering which fan would draw the least power. I'm planning to install a 3g alt and eventually a DCC, but I'd like to have plenty of juice left to run my stereo system. Would any of the above fans run off my stock alt, even just for a few weeks until I get the 3g in?

Secondly, are all of those fans fairly easy to install? I don't really like the idea of wire ties through the radiator, would much rather use brackets if possible.

not real sure on actual draw, but i think you would be hard pressed to beat the low draw (on low speed, which is pretty sufficient) of a 3.8L taurus fan. if you search Jerry Beach's posts, you can see the numbers he has posted for its draw (he used to, and still might, run it on a 2G alternator). he recently upgraded to a variable controller, but used a switch before that.

Thanks, I'll do a search for his posts. Just typing in 'electric fan' brought up more threads than I could make sense of.

Is there a cheap way to have the fan on a temp control, until I can afford the DCC? If I just put it on a manual switch, I'd have to never turn it off, b/c soon enough I'd definately forget to turn it back on.

also if you use a temp control switch youll be tapped fer power but be on the line of good n bad .
if you hard wire it on all the time you need a 3g alternator upgrade

the taurus fan draws 70 amps. Yet this is alot. It actually pulls the car forward it pulls that much air.

people talk bad about the proform fan but i've had mine for almost 2 years and it's been flawless.i ran it with my stock alt. before upgrading to a 3g and it was fine.i don't have a killer stereo or a/c though.

when and how was this measured? what speed?
most of us are concerned with the sustained power usage, not start up, which is often double or triple the sustained draw. if your fan draws a sustained 70 amps on low speed, i would be worried.

Mr Baskin should be able to provide specs. the 3.8L taurus fan is one that is offered in his packages, as i recall.

Kerp, some get away running a 20 buck variable controller from the parts store. they can leave something to be desired accuracy-wise, but work for some folks alright. make sure you have a good temp gauge though.

that 70 amp was on high speed. on a 96 taurus fan. And I didnt think so either but it does melt a 30amp relay real quick.(from experience) hook two relays and they still melt but just takes a little while. I dunno if thats what they are soposed to draw or Thats just the one I have. But it does pull craploads of air.

I was running a fan from a 91 cavalier or somthing like that which worked well for me. I never had any cooling issues, and I used the temperature activated switch. I forget how exactly I mounted it up, but I know I used bolts, just took a bit of time customizing.
