Installed Blower.. have questions

I just picked up an A trim vortech used for 1200 bucks in good shape.... It took 3 days for me to do and i finally have the car running with a few flaws i have to fix tomorrow.

I called vortech and they said my stock fuel components can be used because 6 psi isnt much to where i would need anything additional, but it is strongly reccomended to buy an FMU..

Well today i just finished getting the car running, but i do not have a timing light and 15 degrees timing is wayyy to much for a blower, soo i havent been shifting higher then 2500 because i dont want to be buying a set of head gaskets now also. Tomorrow my friend will be retiming my car back down to 10 degrees and i will be buying the FMU... After all this, i should be set right?? Oh and did i mention i am still speed density and did not switch to mass air. The car idles perfectly fine and drives fine. I am not sure about WOT, because i did not stomp on it enough to feel the blowers effect. But it does run right.. I will eventaully convert to mass air when i do a am and bigger injectors are needed.

My question is.. It came with a Greddy Blow off Valve screwed into the inlet pipe and i am wondering where it T's off into??

Start with 7-8* timing and work up from there. Since you dont have an FMU, invest the money into getting some 30lb injectors instead. Buy a 255lph in tank fuel pump and install it. Dont go into boost until you do all of these things I mentioned. Congrats on the blower.

You need to install the check valve in the MAP sensor line since you are Speed Density or all hell will break loose when it tries to make boost.

Vortech sells the valve, I'll check when I get home I may have one as well you can have cheap.

Make sure the FMU and boost guage are on different vac sources or they will compete for vacuum and you will get improper readings. Also make sure they are not installed directly across from the Brake booster or it will have to fight for vacuum.

I would just screw the Greddy valve closed, you do not need one at 6psi of boost...

am i reading this wrong or did you say you havent upped the injectors yet?
and you are still using sd? so you just threw a blower on and assumed it'd work?

"my friend will be retiming my car back down to 10 degrees"

scary. have your friend teach you how to do timing.

No i havent stepped up with the injkectors... I have a vortech FMU coming tomorrow and yes, i just backed my timing down to 9

Edit: If anyone can tell me where I can get a check valve, what it looks like, and how it hooks up to my map sensor, ide really appreciate it. thanks

Wait, if you tried to get on it without an FMU, and it entered boost, then it fell on it's face because it leaned out.
Don't enter boost until you have an FMU. Engines are expensive.
The check valve goes in the vacuum line going to the map sensor. You just cut the line and insert the valve inbetween the two lines. But I don't know what it looks like.

tell us how is sounds with that greddy BOV.......... i want to run one with my set up because the sound means TROUBLE.....................

Are you kidding??

FYI- A blow off valve that is not run with a intercooler car is usually fairly silent, atleast the Blitz super Sound blow off valve was on a locals guys car.

Why would the intercooler make any difference in the sound of the blow off valve? The only thing that makes a difference is how much air is actually blown off. Cars that run intercoolers will typically run more boost. Blitz blow off valves are just not very loud to begin with even on a car running 20 pounds.

This was the valve machined for more noise so they say, the intercooled cars for what ever reason make a louder noise then a blow off on a SD car.

On a MAF car the air needs to be re-circulated so the air is NEVER vented to the atmosphere, so it will only make noise if it has a intercooled set-up.

i must disagree. i have heard pllenty of non intercooled/aftercooled supercharged mustangs that blow off like pissed off condom

Now that you have that blower, keep an eye on heat temp. I see that you have U/D pullies...bad idea with a blower. The U/D pullies make your waterpump actually turn slower. If would recommend going back to stock. I had to when I got my blower. You might also want to invest in a Alum Radiator to keep cool. With a blower, your motor will run warmer. Good Luck!
