Installed HIDs.. but the light is EVERYWHERE

Well as the title says. I installed the HIDs just a second ago, and WOW they look great.. but it seems like they are somewhat high, and would blast the other drivers. Is this how they are meant to be.. or did I make a mistake somewhere. I'm a novice in this area for sure.

That's kinda what happens when you install HID"s into non-HID headlight housings. That's kinda the reason why HID retrofits are illegal. The light pattern is not aimed properly.

No way around it other than to install projector headlights.

Not completely, but it will as close as you are gonna get to somewhat aiming the HID light

Did you set the adjustment? be careful the screws break/strip EASY! Most of the ones in my clear corner lights are stripped out/locked up. For NO REASON, quality there just sucks, but oh well. they are a little high, but noone flashes me....

hell people flash me with my silverstars...like hotmustang said, the adjuster breaks easily, and the previous owner broke them on mine...so not much i can do...besides blind the bastards in retaliation..hahahaha

Yeah, I didn mess with the adjusters all that much, glad I didn't I would have broken them. Thats my task in a few minutes. I road to work today and I could see my lights totally making the tool boxes in the back of regular sized trucks gleam, lol. I laughed, but it was hott. The color is amazing too, i got the 6000k kit. It's some "not so popular brand" Gtech, and as far as packaging of a product and EASE of install... WOW A+

Ill check my adjustments tonight, thanks guys.

The adjustments helped a ton. Still very bright but it doesnt blast people anymore.

Ive done many HID installs. All of my cars have either a hid kit or a HID Retrofit kit. I would go with McColloch or HID Express kits. HID retrofit kits are the only way to have the true cutoff.

So far, I couldnt be more impressed with the Gtech kit. Of course it isnt the big names like hella and ge.. but I couldn't see how they could be any better.

The install was a BREEZE, and I was amazed at the wiring harness that came with it.. perfect. All the connectors were flawless and the setup seems flawless so far. Can't go wrong for 250 bucks, greeeat deal. I think the kit I bought has a 1 year factory warranty too.

I do believe that their are kits out there that you can pay more for that will have that nice cutoff and a particular look.. but like I said, for the money I spent, I consider it a GREAT mod.

Not to downplay the GREAT lighting it actually does provide, but the price of the kit and ease of install was shocking. I turned the lights on when I had one HID in and I went into shock.

Big names with huge price tags. If thats what you want, go for it. Buy the Gtech and be totally satisfied and still have money in the wallet.

$300 is well worth it for a quality HID setup, rather than $200 for cheap Hong Kong chit. They have proper relays in the harness (does GTech?), the harnesses themselves are very well made, and the bulbs are aligned perpendicular to their bases to begin with so the light isn't EVERYWHERE. Do you know why relays are very important for this type of setup?

Light isnt everywhere, it was a sarcastic comment. After I adjusted the light from practically straight out, to closer to the ground, it looks great. I just didnt have my adjustments set for such a bright light.

As far as HID's go... EVERY HID is very bright when looking at it from 40 feet.. even if the beam isnt aimed at your eyes.

The wiring harness that came with the gtech kit was TOP quality. As far as relays go, I don't know much about it, and I'm sure you'll fill me in.

I just said.. if you have the money to throw away on lights.. go for it. Or you can save money and get a qaulity kit.

Its something like going with motive gears over ford gears

After all.. I'm happy. Thats all that matters.

The reason for going with reputable brands is the quality in the ballasts. Up untill about a year and a half ago McColloch Kits were considered crap. Today there reliable enough for me to trust on a bike I wheelie on the weekends. Compared to phillips and other Xenon companies before (prices were 750 vs. 350) they were a steal. Since then their ballasts have gotten alot better, as well as there customer service. You can still find them on ebay for around 250 shipped.

Dont go with any color above 6000k. My bike is a 6000k and its right at the borderline of too much color. The higher the kelvin output the less light. The caged civic is 5500k. Alot whiter/brighter, it was a must for late night downhill and canyon racing. The bike was more for show. The mustang currently runs a 5500k kit also. More purple than the lexus/honda HID's as they run a 4300 - 4700 Kelvin HID bulb.

Look for more pics up soon. I installed the ballasts on the mustang in the fenderwells where they cant even be seen. I have since done the same with my civic. I hate excess wires everywhere. I will literally extend and hide every wire I can (if its safe to do so).

As you can see here - Not the mustang but you guys get the idea.
No engine wires/harness anywhere - other than sparkplug and starter positive cable.

Does the power feed from the headlight harness or the Battery? HIDExpress kits feed directly from the battery which gives it enough power on warm up that it does not put a strain on your ballasts. The power going through your light socket isnt enough to suppost the volts/watts the ballast needs to properly warm up. McColloch now offers these harnesses as an option. Well worth it in my opinion. My ballasts have now last over a year. My other ballasts lasted only 6-8 months before they went out.

Yeah, its not from the light sockets, it's from the battery. It looks alot like the picture you posted in fact, after I adjusted it. It seems like the is a bit more intensity RIGHT in the middle of the beam where I assumed the two bulbs met and both lights made it VERY bright RIGHT down the center? I'm very pleased with it, and If I were to do it again, id go lower than 6000k as mentioned. Although it does look great.. it hints blue a little much for my tastes.

The only thing my kit uses the stock light sockets for is as the remote.. to turn off and on the lights.
