I just had my Lt's and everything put in yesterday in my vert and to get them to fit we had to remove the x-brace. do i really need it at all? i drove it home in the rain and couldn't really tell any difference in handling at all? would a set of subframes strengthen the car back up? i was concerned about leaving the brace off but it wouldn't fit with the lt's on there so I didn't have much choice. any help would be great.

By X brace you mean the brace on the K memeber? I take it?? Or the sturt tower brace?

Regarless I would put it back on if you can now that they are installed. Subframes would be a very good addition. IMO

Check out Maximum Motorsports. I think they have a K member brace that might work better than the stock X brace for LT clearance. Look closely though, there are two, and one of them is definitely too big.

Try emailing their tech department. Very good response (within a day) and helpful too. Good luck. And keep us posted on what you do. I am curious, because I am putting some LT headers in my vert next weekend.

on mine one side would fit with the x brace on the other there was no way, i dont even think with grinding it would work. i think you would have to cut a whole chunk of it off. your gonna have to do some work to get the lt's to fit. we had to remove the strut tower brace, the x brace, starter, all of the air inlet piping. we also had to jack the motor up to slide the passenger side in. all in all it wasnt that bad, but thank god for lifts and air tools. if you have neither i wouldnt even try it. also its a good time to change the plugs, its alot easier to remove the plugs with no header in the way lol.

oh yeah with that x brace off, the thing probably weighed 20-25 lbs and i cant tell a difference really. drove it home in the rain no problems at all.

The stability in my vert was horrible so after I wrecked it (not my fault) I bought a hard top coupe Cobra. Much more stable. I still need SF connectors. My vert had that brace and I really think that X brace was put in to make the car closer to the road (scraped when car was lowered) and also made it harder to change the oil. Ford was just F***ing with us! ha ha! :D
