Installed my 18x9 Chrome Saleens, Car is sits HIGHER!!!

hey whats up guys, before the 18x9 saleen wheel install..i had the stock bulitts that were 17x8 with 245/40/17 tires on ..now i have 18x9 with 275/35/18 all around..my car is dropped with h&r supersports..the back end has ALOT MORE GAP then before..why is this?should I of got the wheels installed first, then dropped?or does it not matter because the springs can only be put on one way?whats going on here??

Well you put bigger wheels on so obviously its going to sit higher. Just drop it about 2 inches and you'l be good.

That's not always true. You could go from a 15 inch wheel with 235/60 on them to a 17 inch wheel with 205/40 and lose overall wheel height.

Also, I believe he is asking about the gap between his fender and tyre, which would decrease with a bigger overall tyre height.

derek your overall height is theoretically larger, so your car should sit off the ground more, but the gap between fender and tyre should be less. Something else has to have changed other than your wheels and tyres.

This is a long shot, but maybe he left the ebrake on after jacking the car up? Or maybe after having the car up in the air it hasnt settled back down? Sounds stupid but there as been times when I had my bimmer when I would sit it down and be like wtf then realize the ebrake was still on....

IMO- the wheel is bigger but the perimeter of the tire is the same size, I think it will settle back down

just like 03redfire said even thought e rim is bigger you wetn to a lower profile tire so the diameter is still the same as the stock tire, there should be no reason for it setting higher. did you measure the ride higth before the install and after? maybe you just arent use to seeing that low of a profile tire on your car so it give the illusion that it is setting higher to you.

sorry guys..i meant like one user said, the fender gap is alot larger..the rear end seems jacked up..i guess my car doesnt "sit higher" but the gap is bigger then it was before, very noticable..even my two friends noticed it on serperate occasions..i got the wheels put on yesterday.

The car doesnt sit any higher, it just looks like that with the bigger rims

cc plates, adjustment on front end may bring wheel top out to show less space ?

275/35 on a 9" wheel is you problem. Maybe go with a 40 in the rear.

lol... I can't believe no one knows whats going on. Its the issue with putting 18s on our cars at factory ride height. So long as you get the right profile tires, the ride height will be almost identical, it just LOOKS like the car is higher because there is ~1/2" less of rubber between the rim and the fender. Its basically an optical illusion.

Just get springs.

actually this guy is correct his car is higher. a 245/40/17 has an overall diameter of 24.7 and a 275/35/18 has an overall diameter of 25.5. almost an inch taller boys. and you all are corect that wheel gap looks worse w/ them low pro tires.

If he changed the diameter of the entire wheel then he has more problems than just the gap. You should NEVER change wheel diameters. I hope you did your homework and got the right tire

it will just screw w/ the useless tcs and change his speedo a bit. not a huge deal.

i got 275 35 18 all around on 18x9 wheels..what should I have gotten? and i have lowering springs..i have H&R supersports as i said in my opening post..the front is fine but the back is jacked up..i'll take pics.should i have gone 40 series in the back?

no because 40 series are 26.8 overall. all mustang springs are going to set the front lower. nature of the beast i guess. i just cut my rear hotchkis springs to level them out
