Installed my prochamber, is it normal...

To have a slight ticking noise at low rpms. It could be the motor, detonation maybe??? its a tick in the exhaust at about 1200-1700 rpm.

Basically i dont have a tune and until i get a tune everytime i drive my car i get stoned. Its running so rich right now its scary. When it fires up it smokes for a few seconds and i can't put it into gear until its warmed up or else it almost stalls out. It's possible that it is leaking but i can't hear an exhaust leak, there might be one on the drivers side when the car is cold but not when its warmed up. There are no cats and i haven't thrown the MIL yet :D .

Basically what im asking is if there is someway i can sort of temporarily get the computer to run a LITTLE leaner, because right now im paying about 75 cents a kilometer to drive. its running THAT rich, you smell like you've been riding a skidoo all day when you get out. Would disconnecting the battery help? And what else is that going to 'reboot', will my nice firm shifts go back to the granny-style i've long put behind me??

On that note it sounds unbelievable and the increase in torque is sick. Its not even SOTP effect, if i floor it at any time in first gear or middle of second it spins the tires hard and its a battle to keep it on the road. Before i had to be stopped or revving high to break the tires loose once i was moving.

Mods that could effect air/fuel ratio are :homemade CAI, mufflers, the o/r prochamber or i could have possibly knocked off a vacuum line behind the motor while trying to get those confangled h-pipe sensors disconnected.

drive up against a wall, if the tick gets louder you have a leak. an exhaust leak can make your car run rich, plus the lack of cats doesn't help. did you use the napa stud kit and an oem copper gasket?

i've had my prochamber for about 3yrs and people still tell me my car stinks, maybe i got used to it. might also explain my loss of 9 IQ points

and wtf is a kilometer?

I little less than a mile. Also if you had any noise at all it would be louder next to wall.

But the original poster probably has a leak at passenger side manifold. Its not hard to over tightened the gasket. I hope your not using the Mac supplied gasket? Also some people needed to change the studs on the drivers side manifold because the stock ones wouldn't allow for the pipe to draw up enough to seal.

My exhaust is on tight, no leak, and it's raspy as all hell (like you said). I also have an offroad prochamber, and I'm now looking for a place that will sell the catted legs for it, I can't stand that ticking you hear when driving. But yea, it's normal. Great pipe, great sound on the outside of the car, ****ty sound in the cabin.

.62 of a mile

just trying to be cute by making fun of the fact that he's "different" than us (again, a joke)

guess i'll try harder next time:(
as for the pc, i wouldn't say it sounds ****ty, just kinda weird at low rpms

+1 exhaust leak. Did you put in the little adapter plate in the drivers side, replace the passenger side gasket, or at least make sure its in good condition?

added the little adapter 'plate' on the drivers side, didn't change the passenger side gasket, but it looked to be in decent condition. The POS mac gasket that came with it was creased and cracked anyways LOL, im pretty sure i could make a better gasket than the one mac supplied. Didn't change the studs for the header-to-h bolts so they should have been able to torque down tight enough. Didn't use the impact to tighten them though, we didn't want to overtighten anything. I think the 'leak' (if it exists) is on the drivers side, or maybe both sides, when im outside of the car it sounds the same on either side at idle... but like guy who posted a few before me said there is a tick with the prochamber anyways... apparently. After we installed it we went under the car and revved it from 1000-4500 checking for leaks and we didn't think there were any. Im going to put it up on the ramps (using a couple loaves of bread so i dont hit them) tommorrow and check again. Im hoping it just needs a tune, and theres no leak, as easy as an install as this is, i dont want to repeat it. There was always a ticking noise with the stock exhaust in the same RPM range it was just much much quieter.

as a side note:
For anyone wondering if they should do this install themselves, DEFINATELY, its very easy if you have an impact wrench and some sort of lube (i used jig a loo or w/e its called). We disconnected the wires on the rear o2 sensors then unbolted the pipes from the headers, then unbolted the rear of it, dropped the front so it rested on the front sway bar and then had enough room to 'easily' get at the top o2 sensors. Also the guy who taps the holes at Mac needs to be fired. Everything else was perfect, 1 of the holes was tapped off center and on the others the threads were filled with crud. All the studs needed to have nuts locked on in order to get them to thread into the plates.

As for the pc sounding '****ty' at low rpms... i LOVE the way it sounds on startup and at 2000+... I just dont like 1100-1700 its a really gritty redneck truck/weird sound... everything from 2000 on is such a beautiful sound... but you dont get to hear it for too long because its like getting a kick in the ass from 3000-6000rpm you really scream(best way to describe the pc at high rpms) into the next gear, it feels like i dont get to floor it very much anymore... because when i do im going WAY to fast.

Yeah, the supplied gasket is a POS.

You probably didn't hear a leak because the car wasn't under a load. Like someone suggested, drive next to a wall with your window down. Give it a once over tomorrow making sure that everything is sufficiently sealed.

Or spray some soapy water on the connections and look for bubbles.

i have a pro chamber... i have the hi flow cats on it. I dont have a tick like e veryone else does.

I have been wanting to get the off road legs for a while now...just never gotten around to it....i bet it would sound even better w/o the cats huh?

Yeah drive up next to a wall, if its there, you will hear it

mine has a tick... its the exhaust pulses hitting the walls of the pipe... you just hear it because its a fairly large pipe and it sorta echos i guess... i like how mine sounds untill it gets lugged any then it sounds like theres a 2" hole in it... but unless im trying to go like 30 in 5th gear im fine... oh and does anyone else love how it sounds right around 3k?
