Well, I finally got this stereo thing figured out. Bypassed the factory amp and everything is good. The only problem I have now is that the positive battery post sparks when I put the cable on. It does not do this when I disconnect the radio. I followed the install directions, soldered, and used heat shrinks to make sure it stays in good condition. I don't see what the problem could be with the radio wiring harness, maybe someone can help me out? Thanks.

A little spark is not uncommon. Your radio does draw power (clock), but it should not be enough to worry about.

I thought it might have been from the "Constant 12v" yellow wire for the memory. I'll try and get a multi-tester so I can check it out.

it shouldnt be a problem, this happened a lot at circuit city when i used to work there. You may want to check the ground at the radio though

There are many circuits which have constant 12 volts to them. Any one of them could cause a draw.

Good luck.

Well, I am assuming that it is the stereo, as it does not spark if I disconnect the radio harness and then replace the battery cable. I am glad that it is "normal" at least.

Because it wouldn't work the other way. Something about the grounding of the amplifier, I don't pretend to understand it. With amp= Doesn't Work. Amp removed= Stereo Works!

That, and the fact that the factory amp is weak compared to the head units that are made these days. I think its like a 35w amp for all the speakers!

Most of them are 35w max! usually around 11 to 14 rms. Most companies put the MAX wattage on their product. Just like a little jensen amp does not up out 5000 amps.
