Hey guys. I'm installing my Motive 3.73 gears + shim kit + FRPP T-lock rebuild kit this weekend. I have a ton of general tools + my flexible arm dial indicator for the gears and i have some 75w-140 oil (i believe is the spec, can't remember off the top of my head), all ready for the install. I know i dont have that pinion depth tool... so im not sure how im going to pull that off yet.

I've been doing some readon on the subject matter, but lately i've been having bad luck with the search option trying to find gear install threads. Maybe you gusy can help me out. I've been away from stangnet for a few months now, link-me please to any good write ups that may have come out recently.

And i'll take pictures and keep you guys posted on the install this weekend. (although im sure it will take me a few days to do). And i have a Speed-Cal all ready for after the install is complete.

Also any write ups on instlaling the t-lock clutch packs in any specific order or anything like that would be helpful. ANY info would be helpfull really.

Thanks for some help guys =) I'll need it.

Think i'll need the 2-3" micormeter to measure the pinion head?

i have one of those digital ones but most of the time i reuse the shim that came out of the factory one cause the measurement comes out the same but this only applies to teh FRPP gears casue they are machined differently than the motive

Ok thanks guys, i'll probably be tackling this today. Kinda nervous cause i can tell this is going to get ugly LOL. I'll take pictures and keep you posted. I'll show you guys what a blown rear looks like if you haven't seen one yet

Think Autozone would rent out a 0-6" Veniere Caliper (i think its called-- to measure the pinion head)?? I think thats the only tool i dont have at all.

I might try to do my own gears if i had a press and even knew what a dial indicator does.

OK i just bought a Digital Vinere Caliper (i think is the proper name). It was like $20 at autozone so i figure if i can use it a few times it was worth the cheap $20. But the press now is what im worried about.

I dont think i have one. I have a bench vise which MIGHT suppliment a press, but not really. Anyone have some pics of some presses you have or where i can get one?

Install is scheduled for tomorrow and like all my other mods, its just me doin this lol

03GhostStang I just sent you a PM. And i'll post it on here for others to answer maybe:

Well i DONT have a crush sleeve, i have the motive gear instlal kit and i think it replaces the crush sleeve somehow. How much is a new crushsleeve? Think i can get one from like Autozone on a Sunday? Dont know how thrilled i am about "replacing" the crush sleeve.

Also, how exactly did you set the backlash. I know you said you added/removed shims and checkd for backlash..but what is the SPEC supposed to be for the backlash? Where exactly did you add/subtract shims?

And finally what press did you use? Do you have a picture of one i can see?

The best of luck with your Motive ring and pinion.
I hope you have good Karma and you don't get that dreaded
whine or issues that the Motive gears are notorious for.

Ok i have another question that i need an answer too guys..

I am thinkin of callin chris up at Mustangtuning and having him take my Motive 3.73s back and swapping them for some FRPP 3.73s just to make things easier. my question though is:

Do I *NEED* the Master Bearing kit to install these gears or will my Motive Installation kit i have be enough?
