I'm planning to do a full photo shoot and sort of a how-to when I swap out my rotors and pads on my 2004 Mach 1. I'm not going to install these until next week (after the Christmas holiday), and this timetable worked out well as it gave me the opportunity to paint the hats with black ceramic caliper paint. These should look really nice behind my 10th anniversary rims.
The brake pads on my Mach are very thin right now. They still feel good and they don't make a sound. I really hope to keep it that way - avoid any sort of squealing - I hate brakes that squeal. My wife's Pathfinder always squeals, did so since day 1 of the new brake install...that's a whole 'nother story.
I bought the barely used Brembo rotors and new in the box pads from a former Terminator Cobra owner for $125. (What a deal!) When I took the rotors to the local brake shop to have them turned, the guy said it really wasn't necessary, they just need cleaned up - so he did that and saved me about $40. As stated, the Hawk pads are brand new.
After swapping everything out, I'll take the OEM rotors and have them cut (never been cut before; I'm at about 42K miles), paint the hats on those, and I'll have another set ready when another 40K miles passes me by.
So this begins the Installing new rotors and pads thread. Stay tuned...
