I need some help here. I have a friend of mine that has a '99 GT. He bought a hood scoop off Ebay that came from a newer GT. What is the best way to get one of these on there ?? I figured I'd have to take down the hood insulation, but what is the easiest way to line it up before I drill the mounting holes ?? Drilling holes in a perfectly good hood makes me cringe...

I have heard of people putting grease on the tips of the bolts and then setting the item in place. The grease spots make your marks to drill on the hood. If you are really worried about it you might consider having a body shop do it. You will probably need them to paint it anyway so why not have them install it as well?

It doesnt need to be painted because he got the exact same color scoop as his car. We thought it would be pretty easy to put it on but the scoop has a lot more mounting studs than I thought it would. I'm not scared to try it, I was just wondering if anyone has done this before and how they did it.

Though it may come out ok, I found that putting grease on the studs didn't give me an accurate view of how the scoop would sit.. so instead I went to the dealer and measured where the scoop starts from the back of the 01 Gt hood (about 4 inches). Then I centered it, and drilled away. Mine came out nearly perfect, but if I were to do it again I'd take the studs off the scoop, grease where the studs mount to the scoop, and then set the scoop on the hood. To save yourself some headache, a body shop is another option -shouldn't cost too much.

Well, we just did it and it came out perfect. We just made a paper template and stuck the studs through it and then transferred it to the hood and taped it into place. Then we just drilled pilot holes through the holes in the template. The only holes that were off a little tiny bit were the ones for the grill in the front of the scoop because it is kinda loose where it rivets to the scoop. We just elongated the holes a little and it went down perfect. We set the studs in black silicone before we put the nuts on and it looks completely factoty. I didnt want to take it to a body shop because I heard that they can butcher these things sometimes.
