How the heck are you supposed to loosen that nut on the top of the struts? It just wants to turn the strut rod along with it. I tried putting a vise grips on the rod but no matter how hard I clamp it down it just slips. Tried clamping the pliers onto a screwdriver and using the slot on the top of the strut rod, no luck there either. Anything else I can try before I pay a shop to break them loose?

As far as removing the struts to install the new bushings, I don't have to remove the springs to get them out, right? I did a search but couldn't find a clear answer, seems like most people change springs and struts (and install c/c plates) at the same time.

impact gun. dont even try to go at it with a normal wrench. you wont do anything but turn the strut rod.

if you're replacing the bushings in the CC plate theres a bushing on each side. you'll need to remove the strut... you dont necessarily need to remove the spring to do it.

Someone mentioned once taking it to a local garage and have them use impact to break it loose, then tighten it down just enuff to get home where u can loosen it again. Good Luck!

Hmm... it's not bad to use a normal wrench on them is it? You're just saying it's a waste of time? 'Cause I already tried that....

I'll just go down to the neigborhood garage tomorrow and have them put an impact gun on them... I should have thought of that earlier, I guess I'll just have to watch TV and drink beer tonight instead of doing the bushings, woe is me.
