I didnt use a controller,i just use a manual switch, that way i know if its on or off.You will need at least a 100A alternator.I trimmed my shroud a little to make it a little thinner, but make sure you dont trim too much, thefan could rub the core.
side note: on my way home from vacation in my 06 GT, my car started to overheat.I didnt know the fan stopped working. I pulled over, had some tools from my R/C car, turned out a relay relay melted.Cut some speaker wire from my amp and jumped the relay tp get me home. Point is, i couldnt tell if it was on or off because its controlled by something else.
you can wire in a small LED to let you know when the fan kicks on. and if you wire up the fan to use both speeds, you can wire another LED in a second color to indicate which speed the fan is on.
the taurus fan is a tough fit...I did a trial fitment on my 66 and had to trim the taurus fan so far back it looked like a giant pile of crap.
I've heard other solutions...one being to re locate the entire radiator slightly off center one way or the other...as the water pump snout is the problem with clearance. Another suggestion is to try and cut the tip off the w/p snout. You can also slot the radiator support and slide the radiator in towards the front end some to get more clearance.
I'm using a wider 67 radiator on my 66, and it appears just wide enough to run a mark viii fan, which I already have...so I'm going to see what it takes to make that fit. I've heard the mark viii fans pull up to 4500 cfm's.
