Hi everyone,

I am thinking of changing the intake and carb on my '67 390 GTA in the new year. The current set up is an old 'fuel saving' Edelbrock intake and a tired Motorcraft carb. The engine was rebuilt a few years ago and is stock other than a mild cam, high compression pistons and Hooker headers. I am thinking of getting a Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and a 700 CFM Holley carb with vac secondary. Would this be a good choice??

The car is a weekend cruiser so no high rpm's are required, just lots of low end torque

Thanks for any advice,

Darren

Let me guess, you've got an SP2P on there? If so, then yea, you need something better, and any intake is better than that one, even the stock std intakes (but not the PI/MR/CJ ones). Other better choices in my opinion are the Blue Thunder , Edelbrocks older F427, or an original 428PI/427MR intake. These are all basically clones of each other, but I think they're a better intake than the RPM. And they also work fine at both lower and higher rpm's.

what D said about the intake, as long as you get one in aluminum(they are FAR less weight than the cast iron ones, and easier on your back, unless you have an engine hoist ready). as for a carb, i would suggest a 750 edelbrock carb instead of the holley.

I would have to disagree about the carb, I much prefer Holley, and if you have experience with Holley, it may be the better choice. The carb is primarily up to you and what you are comfortable with. I have had a few Holley's on my 390 and found performance very good. I also tried an Edelbrock 700 cfm carb and found it to lose considerable power when compared to using an original 67 390 Holley (600cfm) with larger jets. But again, I believe it is whatever you are comfortable with.

Thanks for the reply guys.

I had a Holley on my old 289 so I think I'll do down the route of a 700 CFM Holley with the RPM intake. The dollar rate at the moment makes it a very cheap upgrade at the moment

Have you considered a demon carb? a 650 demon will flow as much or more air than a 700cfm holley. I just put a demon 650 on my 289 (performer RPM intake) and i could not be more pleased with it. I've allways run holley's in the past but i don't think i'll ever go back to them. You should check out rich desbiens on ebay. Excellent seller of demon carbs.
