intake compatibility

I have a 97 gt conv. with a cracked housing by the thermostat. I also have an extra 99 gt motor. Need to know for sure if the intakes are a straight swap or not. I know the 99 heads flow better but just not sure if everthing is the same as far as the manifold is concerned. Thanks in advance.

no it is not. the ports don't exactley line up. there is however, spacers you can buy to make it work..

I have the spacers and did the swap. The plates are 320 bucks shipped. I have the intake off my 98 I'll sell cheap if you wanna buy it.

Thanks for the info guys. I had a feeling they would be different. I suppose I'll check around locally for one first. Blev how much would you ask for your intake, hopefully it's crack free too. I guess Ford wanted to save weight by going with a plastic intake. Thanks again

I'm not sure when Ford moved to the aluminum runner on the intakes. I know some people with 99's who have the plastic runner. I'm assuming Ford decided to go aluminum sometime during the productin of the 99+. My intake is crack free and I wouldn't burn anyone cuz carma's a B!7ch. The only reason I'm selling it is becuase I did the intake swap. If you decide you want to buy it PM me and make me an offer, nothing reasonable will be turned down. You could also spend the 320 and get the plates for the swap. You also need a thermostat gasket, and alternator bracket, heat/water tube and longer bolts. You need to get bolts that are 8mm and 1.25 pitch (same as factory) but they have to be a half inch longer on ALL the intake bolts. If you decide you want to do the swap PM me and I can give you some more details to help you out with it.

Mine cracked last summer and it was covered on warrenty by Ford. That could have expired by now since it's a year later, but you might want to at least look into it. Might save you some cash.

There are a lot of us 96-98 owners that have put the PI intake on NPI heads with success without the adapter plates. I thank the pioneers that attempted this in the beginning. They don't quite match up, but are close enough to work. Using NPI gaskets with running some RTV on the inner portion to seal the air intakes, 99+ coolant tube (between the V) and either modifying the waterpump nipple or replacing it with the 99+ version is all that is needed. See the link below for more details. I couldn't be happier with the swap performance wise and the peace of mind that my intake won't crack in the future as I have a new 02+ PI intake with the aluminum crossover.

What's the deal with the water nipple???? I bought it and didn't need it. The new tube fit fine over the exhisting nipple.

It was the same with me on my car. From what I've seen now the '98s have the updated waterpump nipple, but not the updated coolant tube. I swapped the new nipple over anyway because it had two new small gaskets that was cheap insurance for a good seal.
