Intake desicion

Cobra or Performer??

Not selling my car btw i cant make up my mind but i talked my dad into letting me get some gt-40ps and a new intake. Do i need to get a new cam or will the stock 1 be ok for now, and will bbk shorty headers work with the gt-40p's?

Cobra intake is always a good choice its a direct bolt on. I bought one for mine that i havent installed yet, on the other hand the Performer can save money in the long run because you can upgrade the upper only to fit your need ( performer RPM ). If your engine grows it will need to grab enough air to maximize performance instaed of having to buy an entire intake again $$. The b & e cam are used in alot of cars but there are better out there to help really make those heades shine. It is a good idea to do this all at once instead of having to take everything apart again later. As far as headers im sure if you call bbk they sell some for the p's so does mac. good luck :nice:

Id go for the performer. I had a chance to get one locally for $250 and I let it go. Bad move.

But i wouldn't get short spark plugs. I think it would hurt performance by hiding in the spark plug hole if they are really short.

If they are too short and arn't fully inside the combustion chamber then it doesn't spark the fuel efficiently. When the spark hits, the flame spreads. With the short spark plug, the flame would have to start inslide the spark plug hole and then tranvel into the combustion chanber before it ignited the rest of the fuel.

A regular one would spark and ignite all the fuel right away.

Just my theory, could be wrong. But someone will correct me if I am. Thats why these forums rock.

Either intake will work well with P heads.

I have a sugestion on the cam - get the stuff to degree your stock cam! I have a 88 GT built in 2/88, so it has an 87 cam in it. I recently degreed the cam after putting a new chain on and found the cam @ .050" lift to have 219° duration intake and 212.5° duration exhaust with 113° ICL and 112.5 LSA. When you look at the cam valve events it's in between the Crower 15510 and 15511 cam, so should be a good power maker. That saved me $250 for a new cam.

If you're buying new a Cobra manifold would be hard to find since it's been discontinued by Ford. From asking people on this forum and other alot of people prefer the Performer. I just ordered mine from Summit.
