What was the hp difference?K&N Filter in fenderwell via home built intake. Keep the intake charge nice and cool. The stock setup does a very good job of this as well.
The stock airbox setup is actually very good and was not a limiting factor at my power levels. I swapped to this setup simply to clean up the engine bay.
From my experiences with a speed density setup, if you're making under 300whp the stock intake w/o silencer isn't holding you back or costing you any hp.
I've dyno'd this car with both setups.
0-1 below 5k rpm, 3 at 5500. Essentially nothing, within margin of error.What was the hp difference?
I put a “through-the-fender” intake kit on my ‘86, but later removed it and used the stock air box with the silencer removed and a K&N panel filter. This brings cool air in from inside the fender well.Do you fellers prefer your intake element in the fender or in the engine bay? Why or why not?
It's amazing how many people install a 'cold air kit' that has the air filter exposed inches from the exhaust manifold/header. They have no idea what they've done.
