Intake gaskets not sealing? Need Some help

Hey guys, i am having a problem with my lower intake side gaskets not sealing on cyl. #8, 6, 5, 4. #8 is the worst and its creating a vaccuum leak on my car. I was using Fel-pro 1262 gaskets b/c i have trick flow heads, and it seems like these particular gaskets dont seal right. Its immediate as soon as i start the car is starts smoking and # plug is oil fouled. I used 1250 gaskets and they worked but i had to remove the manifold again and used 1262's and it started happening. I am tired of going through intake gaskets, and wanted to know if anyone in here knew of any tricks to get the ports to seal better? I have some more 1250's coming, but would appreciate anyone with some info. BTW, i am following the Chiltons manual on the torque sequencing and am using a torque wrench. Thanks for any help!!

My favorite trick that saves time and effort is the stay in place gasket. Be sure that you scrape (don't use a wire brush) all the old gasket material off, then clean all the surfaces with acetone or MEK.

When the surfaces are clean, use weather strip adhesive on the head to manifold surface, and on the side of the gasket that mates to the head. Follow the instructions on the tube or can and when it gets tacky, press the gasket down on the head.

Clean the area where the rubber rails mount to the block in front and in the rear with more acetone or MEK and do the same trick with the weather strip adhesive that you did to the heads.

Coat the rubber seals and the gasket area around the water passages with lots of Blue Silicone gasket sealer and put it together. Wala! no leaks, and no gaskets that shifted out of place.

If you reuse the injectors from your old setup, a repair kit is available from most auto parts stores if needed. Coat the injector body "O" rings with oil before you use them and everything will slide back together. Take the other advice you got here and run with it.

Fuel injector seal kits with 2 O rings and a pintle cap (Borg-Warner P/N 274081) are available at Pep Boys auto parts. Cost is about $2.74 per kit. The following are listed at the Borg-Warner site ( http://www.borg-warner.com ) as being resellers of Borg-Warner parts:

Use motor oil on the O rings when you re-assemble them & everything will slide into place. The gasoline will wash away any excess oil that gets in the wrong places and it will burn up in the combustion chamber.

I`ve had to retorque my lower intake 4 times already to stop minor coolant seepage with those fel-pro 1250`s.Next time I`m going with Mr.Gasket ultra seal 2`s.

F**k fel-pro.

I have this stuff called gaskacinch, its a gasket sealer, is it ok to use this to stick the intake gaskets to the head? Also, is it ok to put the black RTV sealant on the actual gasket where the problem is so that it seals off? I was nervous to do that because i thought that it would make it leak worse than before. Thanks for the help jrichker!

I used red sealent. On the front and back I didn't use gaskets at all. Jrichters plan sounds great though

So you used gasket maker on all the ports instead of the actual intake gaskets? I thought of doing that, but my car is supercharged and didnt know if they would hold. If all else fails i will try that, thanks man!

Nevermind, i read that wrong. You just mean on the front and back rails, gotcha!

I cut the heads off long bolts that will fit the holes in the heads at each corner. This gives you a guide to install the lower intake onto the heads and holds the gasket in place. Tighten the center bolts and remove the 'studs'. I never use any sealant and I never have leaks.

I've had to REPLACE my intake gaskets 4 times because they shifted after about 5 months each time.......also Fel-Pro 1250's! They're crap in my opinion. I used Edelbrock's this time, hopefully they work.
