Intake Hose polishing

hey everyone i was just wondering how the hell to clean/paint my intake hose and box to look new. i see everyone looking as shiny as a baby arse. do i have to paint them, if so whats the process etc etc. mine are pretty bad and i was looking for a nice and cheap way to detail my engine a little

i think most have aftermarket chrome cold air kits, or something like the C&L intake tube i have. i have seen chrome cold air kits for like $20 on ebay, but they seem to charge like $30 for shipping to make up for the low list price. not sure if they're any good either...

tire wet or any rubber shiner/cleaner is good
