Intake question

The Explorer and Cobra (GT40) intakes are essentially the same casting on the inside, just look a bit different on the outside. They do flow the same though. Now a tubular GT40 intake flows the same but is made with individual pieces welded together instead of cast, but usually have a heafty price tag.

The uppers flow more than the lowers and you can get the lower ported later when/if you get different heads.

For your setup the best bang for the buck would be to find an Explorer GT40 intake. You can usually find the set (upper and lower) for about $125-150 plus you will need an adapter elbow which are about $60-90 new.

A '94-'95 Cobra intake will bolt right on with no need for adapters or anything.

I bought a used 95 cobra intake off ebay. Apparently the guy painted it red then cleaned it up. i received it pink lol. but anyway i sanded the entire upper smooth and painted it with high temp engine paint and high temp clear coat. turned out pretty nice. Its a little time consuming tho but worth it.

Best to have it bead blasted. If you can find someplace that does that it would probably be the fastest, easiest, and only cost maybe $20 or so.

i sanded it by hand and used the coating on it like a filler to smooth the entire intake. started with a 100 grit and ended up with a 1000 grit sand paper. like i said it was time consuming. looking back i prolly should have just polished it lol, but the black looks awesome being the same color as my car.



P.S. explorer intake bolts right on without a spacer with stock valve covers obviously
