Intake Spacer...?

The dyno's have proven before they do make better power. I'm running two on my car right now. One however is 1/8th of an inch shorter than what it should be, so combined together its 7/8in and not a full inch.

BTW, that looks like a great price for one. Pretty cheap. Just be sure you don't get ripped off as that sometimes happens on E-bay.

what type of gains do you usually get?? And more importantly how does this affect the motor and in what way does it help? Just curious I guess..
It adds length to your runners by increasing the distance between the upper intake plenum and the lower intake. Basically, added length means more surface area inside for more air to flow. The average gains are around 2-4rwhp. Most guys usally see around 3-4rwhp though. Thats across the power band as well. While you got that upper intake off, you might want to port it if you have a dremel kit with a polishing kit for it. I did it to mine and it worked out great. Better yet, if you have the money, but an aftermarket plenum and combine it with that intake spacer. I'de be curious to see how well that would work together. Though I do hear that some of the aftermarket intake plenums have added length built in like an intake spacer. Any truth to this ?

I have a dremel and polishing kit how would I go about doing that? Maybe there is a good write up somewhere I can look at? I am sure that would help add a couple ponies plus the few from that spacer :)
I once did a write up on here about how to do it. However, I do believe it was lost when Stangnet had its crash a while back and lost many of the files.

Its not hard to do though. I ported mine using a dremel head that was used for grinding and sanding metals. Just grind out the outter edges, remove some material and mainly, smooth it out to where its as even as possible. Then, try smoothing out the rough casting you've created from all the grinding and removing of the inner material. I did this using mainly different grades of sandpaper. Started with a real harsh grit and then worked my way down to a light grit. This worked really well. Then, you can end it with some cotton heads and polishing compound on your dremel tool. It works quite well. I had some pictures on here but they were lost I'm sure. I'll see if I can't take some pics of my current work on an upper intake and throttle body I'm working on.

i bought from that same ebayer last week. he sells a kit with both the intake and tb spacer for like 60$ free shipping. it came with all the gaskets, screws, etc. and is really good quality. i bought on a monday or tuesday i dont remember, and it arrived that friday. i don't know the guy but if he sold something else i needed i would definately put the business his way again. i dont have time now but in a couple hours i'll post some pics of everything that came in the package.

the plan for me is i'm p&p'in a stock plenum and will swap in the 2 spacers and plenum at the same time once i'm done with the grunt work on it.

all together it's costing me like 80$ since i had a pile of bits for the dremel already. sure it wont be as nice as a full accufab kit, but with the 300 saved i'll probably pick up a strut tower brace and densecharger.

just keep in mind that if you have a strut tower brace and an aftermarket cold air intake, you may run into some clearance issues. I just went out to look at my engine, and there is no way I could fit one on there....I was looking at getting 2 like the other guy said...then clearance issues set in..

My biggest concern is that I'm planning on installing a K&N FIPK at the same time...if I'm going to run into clearance problems, I will not buy these spacer(s). Are there any other opinions out ther?

As stated above, I have a combined 7/8th of an inch intake spacer on my car with the K&N FIPK induction setup. I don't have any clearance issues either.

Uhhh, these are highly advised against by almost any manufacturer of plenums/tb's. I thought this was just common knowledge now, but in short, its cheating your engine for crappy power (which will hurt it)
I've never heard of it causing any harm. I've had an intake spacer on my car for the past couple of years now with no problems, as had numerous other people.

The first one is a link to just an intake spacer. The second is to a link with both an intake spacer and a throttle body spacer. I've never used a throttle body spacer, so, I dont know how well it works.

i have no problems with mine other than the fact that i paid too much for it....$90 at summit. :bang: i really don't think it did any thing as far a power goes, but i personally like the whistle/wine that it makes at certain rpm's and load on the motor. another reason why i probally couldn't tell about any gains in power is cuz i put it on the same day i put the pullies on  who knows!!
