i'm going to put an aftermarket manifold on the 302 and i've seen some with and some without the rear water cross over.the stock manifold does'nt have that cross over path.can i just block that passage or just leave it alone?is better for cooling? i'm looking at the rpm air gap manifold. any one out there use a manifold made by performance products?

Yeah, I have the non air-gap model I forget what they call it. It's polished and seems to be well made (made in China). As for how it works I can't say much I've only put about 40 miles on it last year and now it's time to put the 2-bbl manifold back on for the biannual smog check.

The rear water ports on the intake have to be blocked. If they are open, the cooling system won't circulate correctly.

What?? I had a Stealth on my II (on the old 302 engine- 388hp) and it never ran over 190!

And IIRC most your 60's ford intakes had rear water crossovers. (correct me if I'm wrong)

Anyways... first I've ever heard that

Are you serious! Ive had a rpm air gap on mine for about 2000 miles or so and im pretty sure i havnt had any problems with overheating due to the cross over. Anyone know if this is true that you have to block it??

I've run the Edelbrock Performer 289 intake on mine since I first bought it.....I haven't looked at the water passages to see if they are or aren't on there, but I never had any problems with overheating. That included 30 miles roundtrip daily for 2 years and then about 200 miles back and forth to school when I was in college.

I'd go check it out, but the intake's bolting onto the engine

Don't quote me on this one, but if I remember correctly there are two of the four possible water passages open on the Edelbrock Performer intake. They are diagonally across from one another so I can only assume that water flows through the intake from one into the other.

the water comes up from the block into the heads.then it flows from the rear of the heads to the front where it goes int the intake and into the water outlet
