I'm just starting to look at blowers for 96 GT (but with PI Heads) ...what is available in a roots-blower? And what lower intake to get if not included with the blower?

hmmm.... Well, I think that a roots might be able to achieve with your because of the PI heads (if you do have them). Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but you would have to get the 99+ Kenne Bell, but it wouldn't take into account your coil packs and stuff that the 96-98's have. You best bet would to call Kenne Bell directly or go to the ModularFords forums and they have a room specifically for Kenne Bell that a rep frequents. http://www.modularfords.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=73 Lots and Lots of Excellent KB info too.

Then there is an Allen, but you might run into the same problem with the PI head thing. I would really go with a KB if you are thinking supercharger.

Ford Racing has a roots too, as well as Saleen I believe. Again, I would go with a KB though.

KB...

I was just looking at the Kenne Bell 1700 kit for '99-'04 2V GT's... I guess I'll have to call them and tell them what I have and let them tell me what they can do. The PI heads aren't on the car yet. I have them, but if I'd be better off with the stock 96 heads and a Vortech I may go that route...

Well, If your going to go with a vortech, then by all means put the PI heads on. You won't have any problems with a centrifigul and PI heads because it doesn't sit in the "valley". It bolts to the front of the engine on a bracket.

It depends on how you want your car to respond. Roots for instantaneous power or centrigal/belt-driven for spool power. The KB Flowzilla is one of the best roots style blowers you can get. That being said I opted for the Saleen/Eaton Stage II blower and I was not disappointed. I went with the Eaton because of the computer modifications Saleen makes.

I know, but thats just more work Ahh, I guess the heads will be coming off anyways when the bottom end is rebuilt. I suppose those PI heads are going on reguardless... I'd rather have a roots-style blower though. I'm curious...why would the ignition affect different blower applications? I figured the main thing would be fuel delivery. The rest is timing.

What computer mods do they do? I mean I know the computer needs tweakin', but I'm guessing you didn't actually take the car to Steve Saleen's garage. You mean the kit comes with a burned chip or with software outlining the remapping of the ecm?

Back when I had it installed on mine, you actually over-nighted your computer to them (which is covered in the price) and they make some changes. One thing in particular that stood out is that the Saleen system is a "learning" or "mood" system. What that means is that if you are driving around town, babying it, the blower power and response is reduced and it is supposed to improve gas mileage and efficiency. On the other hand if you are getting on it and computer senses it as will decrease response time and increase power. There is more involved with it than what I just summarized but that's basically why it's called a "mood" system; from what I have heard it is unique to only Saleen.

They make more changes than that but I'm not sure what all else there is to it.

Ahh!

I never thought about sending the computer to them...thats kinda cool. Don't even have to put the car on a dyno, just get it back in the mail and slap that sucker in there!

Actually what he is describing is called a adaptive tune..Its on ALL fords..Its something a lot of peaple harp on as a selling feature..

Mine gets good gas mileage normal driving and makes power when im in it..Nothing special about that..

As far as a blower..Even a saleen kit ,it should be taken to a dyno and have the a/f checked..THe best tune is a dyno tune ..a mail order tune is ok but a dyno tune is the best..

Absolutely correct. What I was getting at is that Saleen actually grasps the potential and uses it to actually do good. Either way, it's all good.

What I meant by the whole coil packs is that they are mounted on a bracket between the heads over the intake in the front. If you put a roots style 'charger on that is for a 99+ and you have coil packs, then it won't come with different mounts for your coil packs to move them somewhere else.

My little compilation sorry if old but ....

As mentioned in the above, there are several roots blower applications that will work with your PI heads.
Intercooled
ALLEN Reliable ... well engineered and packaged, but not the best bang for the buck at listed prices.
KB .. hottest ticket in town 400rwhp possible at 9lbs
SALEEN Vendor page .... prices will vary. Low on power by comparison but, big on torque
ROUSH Yeah, yeah ... super expensive but very complete for 350+rwhp at 6lbs
Whipple - not a lot of user here ....
EATON used by ROUSH and SVT and the 03/04 Cobra ...M90 M112 .. I'm sure you've been there and done that too.
Not Intercooled
FRPP/SVO/ROUSH may require some bowl work but worth it.
KB same link
Each has there own distinct pros and cons ... not opening a debate but,
merely pointing out the facts. An intercooled system will be more efficient, or as efficient as a roots blower can be. Based on design and engineering.

The least expensive of the group are the non-intercooled blower, obviously, and lowest level of boost/power added.
I have a non-intercooled FRPP/SVO/ROUSH blower that has served me well for 6yrs. But, again it met my expectations and has proven more reliabale than the driver at times. And well the Eaton on the Cobra remains stock for now.
Dependent on $$$ and expectations any of the above should be able to meet your needs.
