Not to beat a dead horse..but here goes..

Ok guys..my car is about 5 years old now (2 payments left, 01 GT)..and while it's not a daily driver anymore..parts of the interior are showing wear..like around the shifter and the door "pods"..where you pull the door shut.

These pieces basically are losing their color...the grey is rubbing off and exposing the black plastic underneath. I guess these peices are coated with some kind of rubberized coating almost...(interior color is graphite grey)

Anyway..Im a bit lenient on trying to paint these for fear that prep will be a pain and it wont hold up.

I wouldnt want to buy the new interior "trim" pieces (around radio, shifter, and door pods) if they are just going to do the same thing..why waste the money.

As for those that say it is "rice", etc...I really have no choice but to paint at this point.. I would not go with any wild color..maybe true blue to match the exterior..or just a color that matches the interior..

I'm not sure what the best way to prep is, or even what type of paint to use, I imagine a quality plastic paint will suffice, If I can find a decent color.

Im using "paint" or "dye" on my peices. But then again my car will be driven a good amount less than in years past, and I have been doing the prep work they need to make it last. I dont have the interior done or in the car yet so dont know how it will hold up, but others have done it!

The same thing is going to happen with the paint. You can always buy the roushe ones that are all aluminum for $250 :D If I were, just get some off of ebay/junk yard. Good Luck.

I think the Roush ones are still plastic, just painted..form what I read..they look like aluminum but really arent..but I could be wrong.

Ive never painted my interior (yet) but my older brother painted his Blue, i dont know what he did to prep it but after he was finished it lasted for the rest of the time he owned the car (2 years) and then he crashed it, but i wouldnt be surprised if it lasted for another 2 years.

Everything will eventually wear out and show its age. We live in a fallen world....(did you like my worldview plug?).

Like a house, you paint....it lasts a while and you paint again. I wouldn't buy used pieces unless your stuff is damaged. I wouldn't buy new b/c it will do the same thing in a few years. I'd paint....in fact, I am painting right now. I bought the stuff from 50resto.com. Primer and then a lacquer paint. The main thing is that the surface must MUST MUST be clean. Primer is a good thing to help the stuff stick better but I don't think its a must. Be patient and good luck.
