New guy here to the forum, as well as to the new Mustang. Got my black GT back at the beginning of March, and three days later gave it to my buddy to have stripes painted down it. Every minute I have owned this car, I love it!
Anyhow, I have always been in the 4x4 world, never the sports car world. So everything about this car is new to me; accessories, parts, and so on. I started off with MAC mufflers, which made it sound NICE, and also the fact that they are polished stainless really adds appeal. To me anyhow....I decided then to get the Bassani X pipe, and ordered the kit and installed the pipe the day after I got it. Now, its not quite what I was expecting. There is a very loud, "rattling" sound if you will, whenever I am accelerating heavily through 3rd gear. I had a buddy of mine, who is a Mustang afficianado, come by and listen to my car and he said it is typical of X pipes. Some of the videos that I have watched with cars with the X pipe installed have that sound, but mine is really loud. Loud enough that I am not sure I am 100% happy with the pipe. Right now it is installed with the cats, and I am wondering what it would do to the sound if I removed the cats? Also considered running the MAC H pipe, but I do not know what an H pipe would do for the sound. Would it be deeper?

A rather long first post, but I have searched this site and did not quite find the answers I was looking for, so if anyone has read all this and can offer any answers, I would be greatly appreciative!

On my 5.0, the Bassani X-pipe gave me a very raspy sound that I hated. It was especially frustrating for me, because it sounded so awesome outside the car and so bad inside. Without cats the problem was even worse. It made good power with my H/C/I and blower, but I would never do X pipe again.

The sound is not so much inside, as it is outside. It is so bad it almost sounds like a baffle inside one of my mufflers is loose. And it only got a lot worse when I removed the cats today. But after listening to it, it sounds like all the noise is coming from my mufflers. Maybe MAC mufflers and a Bassani x pipe is not a good combination... But it definitely has to change. It is horrible...

I have heard that an xpipe and chambered mufflers don't go well together, and sound very raspy. I'm pretty sure the Mac's are chambered. A straight through design muffler like Borla, Bassani, or SLP may sound better. Either that, or switch to a Mac H pipe. You should be able to sell the Bassani X pipe easily, they are very popular and provide some nice gains.

I would try the factory mufflers with the x-pipe if you're not running cats. I think it would sound very nice, and you wouldn't have a MAC product on your car. Win, win... I'm not a fan of MAC products, but they may have improved on their quality since my last exposure to their parts.

Enjoy your car!

I was actually very very pleased with the sound the MACs gave me with the factory pipe. They are a chambered muffler, and I did notice today (I put the cats back on today...whew..) the sound is in my mufflers. And I am curious how the SLPs would sound when combined with the Bassani pipe. I did price the Bassani mufflers, but man, $$$ Considering I would have to go with the polished stainless since that is what my MACs are, and man I love how they look! I had considered trying a MAC h pipe, but I do like having the option to get rid of my cats.

And I would try the factory mufflers, if I had kept them....
