Is a CAI with 87 tune worth it?

With the price of gas going back up is a CAI with a 87 octane tune worth it? How much horsepower would I get?

I am interested in this as well as I am about to do the same thing. Vehicle is a 2009 V6 Automatic.

yes, the throttle response improvement by itself is worht it. kooldawg ran the 87 for a long time, so he well have a better opinion. i ran it for a short time, just long enough to burn the tank of fuel.

I run it, and its worth it. Throttle response, and you still feel a kick in the pants with that toon. Have not had a single problem.

Will power gains be as much with a 87 tune as they would with a 91? I'm debating finally getting a tune and CAI when spring rolls around and I've been wondering the same thing.

When you buy a tuner you will have the choice of three tunes to be programmed in it so you can have all three octanes. Tho I can tell a definate more torg to the higher tune.
Yes v6s Its worth just removing the lag.

With a Steed UDP, JLT intake and Bamachips 87 tune my SAE corrected dyno numbers were 293.75 RWHP/ 305.6 RWTQ. Here is the dyno sheet. Run file 1 run is the 87 tune, file 2 is the 91 race, 3 and 4 are the 91 tq.

Thanks gmantheman, all you have is UDP, a catback, and a tune? and you make close to 300 rwhp?

Are those corrected numbers? If so, those are some pretty good numbers. 87 vs 93 octane is about ~5 rwhp.

Another thing to think about here is that you'll get better gas mileage with 93 octane. I've worked the numbers and it comes out to be only a few cents more per fill up for 93 octane. I'll gladly pay the few cents for more power. It even saves your fuel filter !!

i am pissed at myself for waiting to get a tuner. the tuner+ tunes have given me the biggest change for the way the car responds on my butt dyno.

loaded my tunes this morning, took it for a spin and just normal driving [kinda cold day, but still dry] giving it part throttle in 2nd gear at like 2k rpms the car was getting sideways. and i have a light foot. doug at bamachips says you'l find yourself spinning the tires from stops. but i was getting all kinds of twisty with part throttle. the highest i had it revved was to about 3500 today and thats just from getting sideways and the revs jumping.

i decided to give it half throttle shifting into second on a pretty speedy shift, the car just sat there and spun the tires. "uh sorry ma'am for leaving those black lines in front of your house"

i've only tried the 93 race tune, but i can't imagine the other 2 tunes being any better.

The numbers are SAE corrected. I did have 91 octane in the tank at the time, but I don't think it would have made that much of a difference in the 87 tune. Although the 87s A/F was a little rich.

For an automatic, the Bama from Doug is especially good because the shift points are much better. I won't go back to the stock tune because it upshifts too fast and doesn't want to downshift when I punch it. I have "87 performance" in my tuner but haven't tried it. Right now, I'm using 89 torque and I'm very happy with the way it shifts. Unfortunately, there is still some throttle lag. I'm not measuring numbers - just want to improve the feel of the car. It does feel like bats out of hell even with the conservative tune. When my tank is low, I'm tempted to try the 87.

Yip I had this problem (lol) with my 93. Mind you I don't have traction control on my car.
