Is car supposed to be on or off when bleeding brakes?

I've always done this /w the car on... but i use a 2nd person to pump the brakes (the pwr brakes help bleed faster).

Personally, I don't like brake fluid to come shooting out with teh assistance of the booster.

Unles of course you're shooting fluid for distance.
