Ok, i just had my 4.10s installed about 4 months ago, everything was fine then i listened for any noise and nothing. Now when the tranny shifts into OD and i ever so slightly feather the gas pedal i hear a faint whine, doesnt sound serious at all but im currently swapping in some Royal Purple gear lube see if that helps! Ive been searching the posts and ive found some stuff on the fuel pump, ive read it may start to whine before it takes a dump, which ive been suspecting for quite some time. Ive had idle issues ever since i bought my car and the fuel pump is the only thing i havent replaced. Also on occasion when i feather the gas, it acts like its herky jerky like its getting enough fuel then its not, but under full throttle everything is fine. So how can i differentiate gear noise from fuel pump whine. The absoulute only time i hear the whine is when i feather the gas pedal.

I dont know what gear whine sounds like but my fuel pump whines and i can DEFINTALY tell its the fuel pump, its not like a whine its like one of those ear pierceings noises thats gets on your nerves, and its ALWAYS on, dosent get quieter or anything, and i can hear it over my o/r hpipe and 2 chamber flows with the windows up, windows down with the wind and stuff the noise kinda fades, and it sounds like its inside the car, idk if this helps

Yeah, i think its gear noise, i just added some Royal Purple and it sounded worse at first but once it got a little warmer it almost went away but i can still hear it faintly, nothing to worry about i hope!!

If it were the fuel pump, it would wine from the moment you start the car, not when you shift into a particular gear. It's gear whine. They're breaking in.

gear whine

Im a ford technician and any gear whine from any rear means something wasnt setup right 4.10s usually require a precise fit for them not to make noise due to the steep ratio

if its whining on tip in at around 45 to 60 mph its most likely the backlash on the
rear is to loose and the ring and pinion are not messing correctly

But hey If it were me and you payed for it
Id be complaining
