Is it just an Alaska thing?

OK, first, I'm absolutely LOVING the vert! Thanks to all who gave me good advice to buy. It's a great daily driver, and I'm being GREEN by almost doubling my mileage over the 05 Excursion V10.:D

We all got to do our part for the environment, you know?

So, here's the gist of the subject line above: Back when I used to actually drive an old Mustang (and not just work on one), EVERYBODY that drove a Mustang (any vintage) waved at any other Mustang (ok, maybe not the spring-sagging 4-bangers driven by scary-looking people with three tobacco-stained teeth, but you get the idea).

So, I've been cruising in my SCREAMING YELLOW vert for almost 2 weeks now, and waving at the other Stangs on the street, and I get nothing. Most of these people don't even look like they're paying attention!

I get more props from the F&F crowd--they all pull up, thumbs up, rev at the lights, etc.

Is this just an Alaska thing, since we're isolated from the rest of the Stang world, or is it that way all over? Maybe I need to start a Mustang etiquette education programe here?

There are a couple guys I see regularly around here in Stangs, and they wave even though I dont know them. Then there are plenty of others that dont even look. Seems like the people who wave are the ones with nice Stangs that have pride in them, and those that only thing of them as "the car I drive" dont even think to watch for others.

Eagle River. Cool.

Anyhoo, I think this phenomenon is common. Old obscure car owners used to wave at each other, bikers used to wave at each other and so on. The Makes didnt even matter (old Brit cars waved to Italian cars, V-twins waved at sport bikes, etc). Not anymore. I find that the only ones who do still wave are generally old-school or just older folks in general. And guys are much less likely to be friendly if they're in newer stangs (it's just a car they got rather than a passion).

I wouldn't want much to do with most stang drivers locally anyhow. They're often kids who throw redline revs or do a burnout in front of me, which makes me look like I know the moron. I shrug when people look at me to see what gives.

Too true. I saw a guy sitting waiting to turn left on Broadway in a halfway decent looking fox body. He was sitting there revving like crazy waiting to gun it. I was half embarrased just to be driving by him in my girlfriend's 93 stang.

1. You know Eagle River?

2. I think you just called me "old". Maybe you were calling me "old-school". I'll take it that way, as a compliment. 42 is not OLD (same age as the Mustang!).

3. Now you're calling me a kid!

I've only done one real burnout since I bought the car, and I didn't start it...:nono::D

Yep. Had very good friends there. We'd go hit the Copper when we had a chance. :nice: I grew up in Anchorage.

You must be older in years but a kid at heart. :D

John, I know whatcha mean. We could add that the only people ruder than some stang owners are bicyclists (I like the faux Tour riders who ride 5 abreast).

around here when i look at a stang that look's nice or well taken care of i get stare's and most people will rev the engine to the moon.when i look most people think i'm somehow challenging them:shrug:i just love to look at nice looking cars....and ladies:D
