is it my trans or my clutch?

when i get to a dead stop at light or w/e sometimes i have to FORCE it into gear and sometimes its a b1tch getting outta gear (have to turn off car sometimes to get in gear) and sometimes while driving i have to force it into 2nd. i have aftermarket parts; (clutch, flywheel,quad,firewall,cable,tob) is it my set up?? or could be trans be getting to the point where its going to give out on me? something tells me it might be a bad TOB. any ideas?? TY

It's the clutch adjustment. What happens is the stock quaderant can loose it's ability to maintain the proper adjustment for clutch freeplay. If there is not enough air gap the transmission will be difficult to engage into 1st and reverse from a stop and may grind on fast high rpm upshifts.

first step is too stick your toe under the clutch pedal and pull up firmly, if the clutch engagement point is still to close to the floor or you still have engagement problems then you can try the method in this link

i have a new quadrant, and all the aftermarket parts, pulling up on the clutch pedal wont do anything for me, correct me if im wrong

then pop the hood and adjust the cable so that it "releases at a higher point...

Probably your quadrant, i've had the same problem on a few mustangs. Just adjust it higher and that should solve the problem.

higher, as in move it toward the front of the car? cuz right now its toward the far end (at the end, pointing to the rear of the car)

If your adjustment nuts on the cable are more toward the rear, that would mean the clutch pedal needs to be pushed FARTHER down to the floor to make the T/O bearing contact the pressure plate. If your clutch is that out of adjustment, the clutch may not fully disengage, and then yes it would be a PITA to put it in gear.

alrite, i have one more question... when i first had my whole adjusment set up, it was REAL soft and nice, right now its kind of stiff... even if i twist the Fifewall down it is little softer... but still kinda hard once the cltuch fork is hit, any way to get it " nice and soft" or is it supposed to be kinda hard?

Not sure what exactly would cause the change you speak of, although I have heard that when a clutch starts getting real stiff like that, its a good sign of it going out, atleast I think I've heard that before. Keep in mind that we run a cable clutch too, not exactly the best in the world for a soft pedal.
