Is it safe to pull the motor by the Aluminum Intake?

Can I pull the motor with the picker up by the Lower Aluminum Edelbrock Intake?

I would say it is ok. I pulled my 440 out with a carb plate bolted to my aluminum high rise intake and it was fine and that motor was a lot heavier. I would wait for a few more responses and see if any other have had any issues with pulling it by the intake.

I pulled as 5.0 and T-5 out together as one by attaching the chain to the lower intake by two bolts. Came out fine.

Sweet, is there another way nto do it? I would like to get the heads and intake off the old one and installed on the new one while its on the stand asap can i run atraps around the bottom of the block or something?

you can bolt the chain you're using to two opposite corners of the block using old head bolts, or around the bellhousing too

I bolt it to the opposite ends of the heads and pull motor and trans that way.

I have never liked the idea of pulling the engine by the intake. I usually keep a set of stock engine puller brackets handy for when the time comes.

It sounded like a scary idea to me at first as well.....but then when watching all the engine and hot rod shows on tv that's all they use.....and they use it with big blocks. The intake can hold a lot of weight.

I bolt it to the opposite ends of the heads and pull motor and trans that way.

That's what I always do. Works really well.

I used the manifold (EFI) plate from Summit and pulled my motor and put it back in with the tranny and all of the accessories connected. It hung there about about an hour and I was a little worried, but it held just fine.

Of course it's safe. The engine probably only weighs 300-400 lbs. That's nothing compared to what the intake bolts can really hold. And those plates are good up to 1000 lbs. too.

I think pulling the engine/trans by the intake bolts is a risky idea. I have never did it but I would hate to pull the threads out or crack the intake with 500+lbs Just me personally...

i'd suggest bolting the chain to the 2 opposite sides of the block....thats what we did to lift my dads 502 outta his chevelle........that thing is heavy as ****!!!!

I've pulled many motors using the intake lift plates and never had a problem. They wouldn't sell them if they constantly pulled the threads out.. I would use the lift plates again and again until I see or hear of someone having a problem with them, and I don't see that happening any time soon, and if so it's probably going to be user error other then parts failure.
