I raced a bone stock 2000 ls1 trans am on the street the other day. It was my friends car. We went from about 15 to 120. He pulled me by 3 cars. I thought my gear would help me out. I know they are putting like 300 to the ground stock. But is my 4.10 gear killing me on the street. What would be the best street racing gear.

Gears aren't going to make up for your 50HP deficit. They help, but are not magic. I'd say that from a rolling start, 4.30s or 4.56s(those exist, right?) would be the ultimate street racing gears. Your top speed with 4.56s would actually be rev limited, not drag limited.

i think the ls1 would still eventually pull him

3rd gear is when they will pull hard
I think he would win in the 1/4 by a car length (if he can drive). His car has potential to keep it pretty even at top end with his mods and his rwhp. 231 hp and 273 torque on a Mustang Dyno = over 250 on a dynojet. I think it could go either way top end but he could take him in the 1/4 with some DR's.:nice:

You were facing the "legendary LS1". They put down anywhere form between 280-300rwhp bone stock. They are under-rated. Now, the 4.10s are probably what has kept you from being beaten horribly. However, they alone arent going to give it everything you need to win.

You need just a bit more power. Ide say another 25-30rwhp would have went a LONG WAY against this guy. Also, what mods did this guy have done to his car ? If he wasnt bone stock, then Ide say you did pretty good.

BTW, my brother has raced MANY LS1 vehicles in his auto 01 GT. He's beaten most he races on the street. He's beat a couple on ther interstate but even he has admited that at high speeds, they have the ability to come back as he says "out of the blue".

I agree...also what Dark Knight said...U just don't have enough done to your car to compete with the LS1, especially from a roll. :( From a dig and gonig from stoplight to stopligh you'd have a better shot, just like other people are saying, but once you guys reach high speeds he should just blow by you without a power adder.

Definately... you should race from a dig... and when you hit about 70 shut it down.. you might be able to hang above him for that long.. but like they said.. as soon as he hits 3rd he is going to pull on you hard.
