What tranny does my 88gt have? is that being too general of a question.....i do believe i remebr the bottom of it saying "METRIC" but who knows, cause that was a while back....and havnt been under the car since.

I need to swap a newer tranny in, and i found a 92 gt aod, but no wure it will work..

The AOD from the 92 will work in your 88. It is a direct swap. There is no computer control of the transmissions in Mustangs until 94 when the AODE was installed. The AOD shifting is controlled with the TV cable.

Ding Ding your right RYC. AOD is hydrualic. Its not computer controlled. Its all done with a TV cable and the governor in the trans. Its a direct swap. Pull your out and put the other on in. No MODS needed. Get r done LOL

just bought the aod for 150.00 and it seems ok....i have to use my dipstick and everything. etc etc... my oply concern is the shifter linkage setup looks reversed on my 88gt????? is their some differences that need to be figured out??

ps.
If you know the RPM of your peak torque, choose a stall speed about 250-500 RPM less

· Cams with advertised durations up to 248° generally like stalls around 2000–2400.

Up to 268° : 2400 - 3000 stall

Up to 288°+ : 3000 - 3600 stall

All-out performance / race: 3600+ stall

· When in doubt, choosing a stall about 500 RPM more than the starting RPM power range of your cam usually works well, especially for street vehicles...
so would a aod with some 3.73's prefer a 2200-2800 or a 2800-3200 stall sped converter???
