Symptoms:
1. Some vibration when I start in first....as if I'm not giving enough gas but I am.

2. Sometimes when rowing through the gears it is sluggish as each gear engages.

3. If I dump the clutch with intentions of spinning the tires, I don't move, the tires don't move, I smell clutch burning, I see smoke from clutch.

4. I started the car yesterday and it started but immediately made a sound as if I turned the key again (I didn't). Then I shut it off but the car continued to try to turn over.....without the key. I guess the starter was stuck...in the engaged position. I pulled the key out, put it back in and started the car right up. No problems (like this) since.

5. With the car off, I can easily row through all the gears (except reverse) without pushing the clutch down.

This is my first manual tranny so I don't know a bad clutch feels like. Thanks.

Where is the point of engagement with the clutch? Unless it's right at the top of the pedal travel (meaning you dont have to hardly push the clutch pedal down in order to change gears), it sounds like the clutch took a poop.

If the clutch has been slipping for some time due to an adjustment issue, it could fry the clutch and lead to all these symptoms.

Good luck.

It is at the top of the pedal. I have tried to adjust it but the FWA stopped turning and i didn't notice a change.....I'll have to get under the car and make sure that nothing is binding.

Just to confirm, you would be tightening the FWA to put some slack into it.

Good luck.

If you want to find out if your clutch is ***** then go for a ride. Drive around and lets say you should be in 3rd gear, well put it in 4th so your car is really low in the rpm range, give it a good amount of gas, if the rpm's climb but you don't go anywhere then you know your clutch is shot. Your car would normally just bog out when you give it gas really low in the rpm range. hope that helps, and if it is your clutch, after you get it replaced don't bother dumping the clutch in order to spin your tires, its just not worth it.
