That's the most perfect explanation for the term that's been used a lot lately. Nicely done

C'mon....seriously? What's wrong with a wheel made to fit a 4 lug car? Who gives a damn? Yeah the 5s look better but what makes the 4 lug version rice?

I think 99% of the world has forgotten what RICE really means. Without getting racial or anything like that, we're talking about absolutely pointless mods with no other purpose than for looks.....17s have purpose regardless of the lug nut style. A huge body kit has no purpose. Taste is one thing, but to be honest i'm refraining from using that term AT ALL anymore, even towards imports. It's just stupid. If an import guy wants to have a big stupid looking wing and body kit...so be it. It's HIS car and that's what he likes. I may think it's retarded, but he might think the same of my car. Does that make it RICE? No...it makes it POOR TASTE. And even that is merely an opinion.

Thats another thing that pisses me off. The car came STOCK with 4 lugs. Just because you CAN convert it to 5 lug, doesnt mean you need to. and there are very FEW cars on here that would actually NEED a 5 lug. Ive seen axles break on 4 lug stangs WAY more than ive seen studs shear off.

I think the 5 lug swap is useful mainly because of brake upgrades....but i've heard people call big cross drilled and slotted rotors rice...that's just stupid.

Yeah...like i said before, anymore it's just a word to describe something that someone else doesn't approve of whether it's cool, functional, tasteful or what. I think it's a really played out word and needs replaced.

By your definition, 4 lug Cobra R's ARE Rice..they don't add HP or Torque, and somebody (namely me) doesn't like them. Terrible defintion.

LED windshield washer squirters..rice.

My definition of rice is: Tasteless modifications meant to give illusion as to the car's real performance (making the car faster than it looks).

So LED squirters make a car look like it's capable of going faster than it can??

Here's the definition of rice as i have observed.

RICE: Anything you don't like on someone elses car.

Ex. I don't like Carbon Fiber hoods so if you put one on any car it's rice
Ex. 4-lug wheels look silly, so if you put 4-lug Cobra R's on it's rice because you didnt get 5-lug
Ex. I don't like clear taillights so if you put clear taillights on a white GT it's rice.

See where i'm going here. The rice word gets thrown away way too often when the person really means to say "I don't like it so you shouldn't do it"

We all have appearance mods. The thign is most of us do mods that are accepted in mainstream Mustang modifications. We all do Cobra grills and taillights and give each other thumbs up. To the outside observer, we are doing pointless modifications with parts from a "faster" car so we are giving the appearance that our cars are faster. Fits the basic definition of rice right?? So why isn't it rice?? Because it's accepted. When it's not accepted watch out, the R word will get thrown around.

BTW. I actually love CF hoods and intend on putting one on my black Fox Mustang when i get around to replacing the steel hood.

OK....maybe i should've added handling into the mix, or better yet just defined it as anything that doesn't aid in PERFORMANCE. 17s equal better handling and better corning regardless of the lug orientation.

By YOUR definition, any custom paintjob, tinted windows, a cowl hood, nice tires....all that is rice because all can make a car look faster than it is. It's just a person's taste man....live and let live.

If you look, I said tastless. The general definition of "tasteless" is ugly..but what falls in that category can vary greatly.

no its just more appealing to the eye, theres a stud/nut for each spoke and its stronger than just 4. So yes it does benefit visually and performance wise

It just seems to me that lately there's been a huge rise in ball busting around here and honestly, it's causing me to not post as often. I may not be Mr. Popular and maybe nobody cares if i post or not, the point is that i've been here for 4 years and it's enough to bring me down....think about the guy who just registered and the first thing he gets is flamed on when he asks a question....

Now i'm no saint either, but i've been trying lately to really be neutral with other people's tastes. Let's face it no two people are a like and even though people want to put huge wings and such on coupes (one thing i personally can't stand)...HEY it's THEIR car and they have to deal with it right? So unless they ask for opinions....why flame'em for it? That's a sure fire way to push people way from this hobby, and that ultimately hurts everyone.

Maybe the import scene is getting so strong because they don't beat each other up about every little thing they do to their cars. Tasteless or not, this isn't about pleasing every other car guy out there, it's about enjoying your car YOUR way.

I just have been getting annoyed that people feel the need to post ricer after ricer post... Almost seems like some worry more about everyone elses car then they do their own. I have no problem with opinions, after all they can't be wrong, but to go to the net and post up every time you see a car that fits YOUR definitions of rice... please!
