Im not really sure if its slipping or what..its kind of wierd....if I get on it at like 60...2nd gear range...it will try to downshift but the rpms will be at like 6k and it will still accelerate and then it will finally kick into gear and go down to like 5500 and dhift into 3rd real quick.. could this just be becuase I need to flush the tranny and change the fluid...its a 96 auto gt with 98,000 on the clock...not sure if the fluids ever been changed but it looks brownish

Change the fluid and hope and pray that letting it go so long did not cause permanent damage.

why are you in 2nd gear at 60mph? This doesnt sound like a clutch pack problem / slipping - more like an accumulator spring/piston problem which may be caused from years of high temps and old fluiid. The high temps aren't ur fault, the fluid is. Change out the fluid to Mercon V or Mobil 1 synthetic ATF then if it bueno install a tranny cooler on your car to try and stretch it's life as long as possible.
