is my trany dying?

I have a 5 speed and when I shift gears it feels loose and mushy and soft. I wasn't doing anything stupid it just started feeling like something in there is broke.

Anybody know what it might be? How long do I have before it totally lets go?

could be your shifter handle came loose Or that bushing on the end of the shifter is worn.......What shifter do you have

what he said, take the boot off and check the bolts for the handle. if its ok, take the shifter off and you will see a yellowish/tan cup sitting in the block. the ball of the shifter sits in there. if its worn/broken/gone it will cause the slack and mushiness you speak off. thats all it could really be. nothing internal really would cause that.

You guys were totally right. I took the boot off tonight and the handle bolts were loose. I guess i should have looked a little harder before i jumped to conclusions

good to hear it was an easy fix......lol to think 2 10mm bolts caused you some worry
