I have a 2001 laser red gt (if you couldn't tell by my name) that has great paint with the exception of slight swirl marks. I've seen the raves about the Porter Cable device but it's too expensive IMO. Those orbital buffer/polishers seem too weak and the other brand random orbit polishers/sanders have an ORP of like 10,000 when the PC is 2,500-6,000. Anyway, I can't seem to find any other polishers with similar specs to the PC. Is there anything else out there that works as good but costs less????

Nope, if there was the PC wouldn't be getting the raves it does.

Coastal Tool has the best price right now on the PC

You will still need pads. In my opinion Meguiars 3 pak for $24.95 is the best deal going. It has two 8006 polishing pads and a 9006 finishing pad. (scroll to the bottom)

Here are a couple of good links to using the PC as well as more accessories

Lastly here is a pic of my Laser Red GT maintained by PC :D

There are many companies out there that make them. You just need to search for them. If you are looking for a good cheap buffer Chicago makes one that works well in my opinion. It's not my favorite, but someone picked one up for me because I needed it in a pinch and it's done an excellent job.

We aren't talking about rotary buffers. The Porter Cable is a dual action polisher. The Porter Cable is perfectly safe for the novice to use with no risk of paint damage whereas a rotary buffer does require some technique and experience and in the hands of a novice can do serious damage.

My bad...I misread the original post.

I just got back from looking at Lowe's and they had a PC Random Orbiter/Polisher for 109. I think it is this model. Still, Bob's post gets you more goodies for 10 more.

haven't checked Home Depot or any of those places. man, I want one of these.

I finally cracked down and bought one of these. I found one on ebay that was actually a Porter Cable DA sander. It's the exact same specs as the polisher so all I had to do was switch the sanding pad for a velcro disc and I'm ready to go. BTW i got it for only 57 bucks and it does wonders for my car. Love it.
