Is it really necessary to use a steering wheel puller or is there another way? I found a black steering wheel at the junkyard and I have no time to rent one. Can I just wiggle it out? I've never done this before. Thanx guyz

I've never tried to remove one without a puller, it would be really tough and likely to damage the steering wheel. And at this point (7:45pm PST), you're likely out of luck soon anyway.

Kragen stores rent steering wheel puller & installer kits, just requires a credit card. You basically buy the tool; when you return it the next day, they refund your money.

i banged one off with my hand before.
same situation,at the JY with no puller.
i hit it on opposite sides on the back of the wheel,at the very edge, where the ring meets the center section a few times til it popped off.
still have it on my car and everything works,cruise,horn,ect...

No need for a PITA puller. If you have an air compressor and an air hammer with the round pointed bit, just loosen the nut and place that bit in the center of the shaft and with a blip of the trigger that wheel will be off. That's how we do it at work all the time.

If you don't have an air compressor or air hammer...just loosen the nut, place your knees behind the wheel putting pressure on the wheel and hit that center shaft with a hammer and the wheel will pop off. That works too.
