I'm just wondering how good an off the shelf chip can really be without a custom dyno tune being done ?

We will see. I have one that I am working on installing. Unfortunetly I have to make some other changes before I can put it in.

They want me to move my IAT sensor and adjust my FPR to 39psi, but my regulator or gauge is not working properly so I may just reinstall my stock regulator. Also they have the chip programed to get ride of my FMU.

I hope to have it all set this weekend and will post the results.

I got my chip done there after I put in my 347 and it runs as close to stock as you can get. However, since Chris isn't there anymore when I sent my other chip back for a free re-burn it wasn't near as good as the first one I got. Now that Chris is with Super Chips I bet their product quality on their burns are outstanding. With his knowledge and their hardware they should an almost unbeatable combination.

How does this chip ordering work ? Do you call them and just order a chip or do you give them some info about your setup at least ?

There is a four page questionnaire on their web site that I had to complete. There were some boxes you could put in suggestions as to what you wanted done or what your current drivability issues with the car was and by that he (Chris) created a chip for me.

It was pretty detailed and he even called me before he burned a chip to ask a question. I must say after I got the stroker put it wouldn't idle it keep surging and would die a stop light/sign.

After I go the chip as soon as I started it was it like night and day. The car was smooth as ice. He correct my tranny (auto) for the higher gears and God knows what else. All I can say that I am completely satisfied with my car/chip.

It isn't the fastest or most powerful 347 ever built BUT it runs like a stocker I can have the air on in 98 degree weather with no pinging and I feel comfortable driving it 500 miles around trip, which I have done, with absolute confidence.

How do these chips correct your A/F ratio if you're running lean or rich ?
Does it correct that ? I would think that would be a difficult task without doing it on the dyno.

I e-mailed JTS with the above questions. We'll see what they come back with.
I assume that if Ed Curtis recommends these chips they should be good. It seems most here have a certain respect for Ed and what he does.

I've heard from many people who have have great luck with JMS chips on naturally aspirated motors. I'm going to be running one of there chips as soon as I get it in the mail.

When did Chris leave JMS? Do superchips do custom chips, my friend told me that they are all off the shelf chips for stockers? He also drinks 5 times a week though.

JMS chips are now sold as "Superchips custom chips" from the JMS site. You now get Chris Johnsons tuning expertise with the Superchips custom chip.

I've decided that if I go for a custom chip I'm going to deal locally. In fact I'm even thinking about keeping the cam I have now and just trying a custom dyno tuned Diablo chip. I know where to get it done now and the Diablo rep will come out to my engine builders dyno. If I don't make horsepower I don't have to buy the chip.
